I use a combination of evidence-based approaches to best fit the needs of my clients including person centered therapy, narrative therapy, and strength-based therapy.
Doing my own personal work in therapy is what led me to become a therapist. I believe strongly in paying it forward, and I would like to be there for you to normalize the process of participating in mental health counseling. You don’t need to suffer in silence. Unconditional positive regard and validation can be uplifting to those who are struggling. I believe that people have the ability to grow and change into who they want to become. As your therapist, my goal is to help you live the best life you can.

You are the meaning maker, the ever persistent expert of your life and experiences. Your unique humanity will be given space here. If you are curious to explore the profound power of choice, the expansive space between a naturally programmed reaction and your authentic chosen response, and in deepening an authentic connection to yourself and others, this may be the space for you. I seek to honor your autonomy and provide a space where creative expression, curiosity, and ingenuity might collide to present you with new avenues to explore. Let’s release expectations, and bravely explore the possibilities of your authenticity together.

I believe that everyone's capable of experiencing an emotionally healthy and fulfilling life regardless of their unique circumstance. With therapy to find insight into past pain and trauma, wounds old and new can be healed, and tools can be discovered to deal with present and future challenges. My clients are ready to be the agents of change in their lives through their personal growth instead of waiting for the world around them to change. I believe that through therapy with me, individuals have the innate wisdom and courage that can be discovered to find their best paths forward with compassion for self and others.

Being stuck in an emotional tornado with no end is devastating. The past year+ has been full of hurt, fear, loss, and the unexpected... to say the least. You end up feeling lost, unsure of yourself, your relationships, your job, your whole world. You end up feeling alone, feeling a hole in your body that can't or is refusing to be filled, feeling like shit at the end of most days. Sometimes you see a glimmer of hope... yet you doubt it's real.

I have my doctorate in clinical psychology and am a licensed psychologist who specializes in treatments proven to increase children's positive feelings and ability to cope. I work with children ages 6-17. Some areas of treatment interest are anxiety, phobias, trauma, and adjustment issues (such as grief, divorce, food allergies). I have a certified therapy dog named Willow. If clients do not want Willow in session, then she is not a part of therapy. Willow is an mini Aussiedoodle, which means she has minimal shedding and is more allergy-friendly.

I meet my clients where they are at emotionally & try provide guidance at any stage of change they are at. I can keep it very formal & clinical but I consider myself more of a guide/coach to help you navigate all of your "life stuff" including work, family, relationships, depression, anxiety, ADHD & other common diagnoses. I spent 8 years fully specializing in all things LGBTQ+ including identity & gender affirming letters/assessments for HRT & Surgical Interventions. Over the past 3 years I've also ventured into spirituality & have been integrating this into my coaching practices by exploring non-traditional treatment modalities.

My approach to counseling is guided by self-empowerment and embracing the person you are and the ways you’d like to foster a kinder relationship with yourself. Our work together will be tailored to the parts of you that you’d like to better understand and support. This may include deep exploration of sexuality, gender, spirituality, culture, and the many different experiences that create the “parts” of who we are. My space is anti-capitalist and fueled by radical self-acceptance.

A client once told me, "Every time we meet I feel I find another piece to my puzzle." Others tell me that they have gained helpful insights into themselves and their relationships. I believe I excel at helping people see the big picture in a new light, notice patterns and themes, and interpret what is going on in their lives with honesty, accuracy, and compassion. If you are having trouble identifying the problem, I can help! Otherwise, I am like any other therapist: active listener, pretty good memory, professional knowledge and skills to facilitate emotional processing and stress regulation, etc.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
