I take a strength-based approach and utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques for individualized care.
True North is your orientating point. It is your point of discipline. Motivation will fail you every time. Find your discipline and you will find your freedom. I have 8+ years as a therapist specializing in adolescent health, parent coaching and trauma informed therapies for individuals, couples and families; speciality groups include veterans and first responders. Therapy & skills work are vital in both self regulation and self awareness, however holistic/integrative modalities can enhance a strong therapeutic framework. As such, I am also an IASIS provider (Microcurrent Neurofeedback), helpful in balancing your nervous system.

IN PERSON OR TELETHERAPY APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE The times are changing and we all need resiliency to get through the current challenges. Stressors are at an all-time high level, leaving many people unprepared for the situations they are experiencing. Under stress, our behavior can fall back to our default settings that were shaped in our early childhood. These patterns may not serve us or our families well. Learning new skills can give us the tools to develop appropriate responses and forge new neuropathways that will enhance the way we connect with the people close to us. Happiness comes from secure connected relationships

I work with individuals as they process trauma, depression, and anxiety. I find many clients may also be struggling with boundaries, self-compassion, self-care, emotional regulation, and assertiveness. It’s my hope that counseling will also offer individuals a greater sense of peace and love for themselves.

As the person who was already exhausted, struggling in relationships, and overwhelmed with the chaos of your own feelings, thoughts, and behaviors these problems have intensified. Carissa is very positive, and very relaxed. She’s not one to rush, or push. Working with her is like taking a long walk with a friend in a state park: your making movement at a chill pace. Carissa is a gifted and talented therapist and has a very calming and centering vibe about her. She is the type of person that is up for talking about, addressing, or accomplishing just about anything. She’s “go with the flow” in all the best ways. This is what makes her such a perfect fit for teens and young adults as she goes at their pace.

I'm here to offer fresh perspective, clarity, and hope. Most of our energy is spent balancing our expectations and disappointments and reacting to the wants and needs of others. We each come to counseling with a unique experience, but most of us rarely take the time and energy to figure out what we need, mentally and emotionally. Counseling is a powerful tool to help you 'level up' and a way to create space for peace and calm in our busy lives. My goal is to bring insight and healing where there has been trauma, chaos, confusion, or overwhelming emotion. Check out CalmRescueCounseling.com to learn more.

Life is hard, but we don't have to go through it alone. Whatever struggles you're currently experiencing, I'm here to help. I value the uniqueness of each person and their experience, and I understand that there isn't a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. You and I will partner to develop a trusting relationship that allows for growth, reflection, and change. I'll meet you where you're at, and give you a safe space to start exploring and creating a life you find worth living.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
