I have been in practice providing individual and couple therapy for over 44 years. My areas of expertise include marriage and relationship counseling, divorce and blended families, and work with individuals who have issues related to depression and anxiety, family of origin, chemical dependency and co-dependency. My clientele includes both heterosexual and gay and lesbian individuals and couples. In addition, I work with clients for whom religion or spirituality are important dimensions of their lives, both as a source of strength and as a source of challenge or conflict.

Authentic Roots Therapy is a mental health collaborative where licensed professionals provide individual, couple, & family mental health therapy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We specialize in working with children, couples, families, LGBTQIA+ individuals, individuals who are questioning, curious, transitioning, or identifying as transgender/non-binary, mothers in postpartum, faith communities, individuals experiencing traumatic symptomatology, and highly sensitive men!

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Minnesota, Illinois & Massachusetts) and hold a certificate in Alcohol and Drug Counseling. I offer clinical services to individuals, couples and families as well as clinical supervision to therapists. My training and who I am is heavily influenced by the LGBTQ+ community and my practice is open and affirming to any identity or relationship however defined. At this time, all sessions are provided via telehealth.

Therapy can be a transformative process that helps you reclaim your vitality and connection with yourself and others. Through my 18 years as a therapist I’ve come to understand the common issues that get in the way of peoples’ growth and success. I can help you identify what is getting in your way, understand what you learned early on that caused you to feel stuck in life now, and address those issues in a way that creates lasting change. I utilize treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and other dynamic strategies to help you live life with more vibrancy and joy.

We have multiple talented clinicians. Our approach to therapy is informed primarily by psychodynamic principles. The emphasis is on creating a safe, supportive environment in which to explore and develop insights into underlying feelings and thoughts. Together we will uncover deeply held assumptions that, although may have been useful at one time, today reinforce ways of coping in the world that are no longer effective or relevant.

I’m so glad you’re here and thinking about coming to therapy! I see adolescents and adults, and I specialize in working with teens and young/emerging adults. I have a lot of experience working with folks who are experiencing anxiety, self-harm, problems with eating/body image, identity exploration, and family/relationship concerns. I identify as queer, and I work from a harm reduction, sex positive, trans-allied, feminist, fat acceptance/HAES lens.

From an early age we learn ways of being from the people in our lives and from our circumstances. My approach to therapy is to honor where you’ve been, while helping you move toward growth that starts with your present conditions and perspectives. We often feel like silencing what troubles us is less painful– I join with clients to access this part of ourselves gently and with great care. I see the therapeutic relationship as a place to practice new dynamics and change past patterns of behavior that no longer serve us. Essential to my philosophy is that individuals are impacted by larger, systemic forces.

My current work focuses on sex therapy. My areas of speciality within sex therapy include desire and arousal issues, desire discrepancies between partners, vulvodynia/vaginismus and other sexual or pelvic pain, and the intersection of sex and disability. Additionally, I work with adults and older teens–especially queer, trans and LGTBQIA+ people—around issues of mood, attachment, addiction, and identity. I also write letters of support for gender affirmation surgeries.
