Therapy doesn’t have to be scary or uncomfortable. Many people feel alone with their thoughts and emotions, and yet most of the time we realize through a conversation that we aren’t alone at all. As human beings we all suffer from common experiences of fear, anxiety, depression, and sadly trauma. I offer a chance to sit down in a quiet, comfortable environment, to have a conversation about life. Let me hear your story and give yourself a chance to see how simple therapy can be.

Are you feeling stuck, angry, anxious, or finding little pleasure in life? Are you having trouble "getting over it"? Feeling unsatisfied or frustrated in your relationships? There is hope. Hurts can be healed, past or present. While I work with many different issues, I specialize in working with people with trauma, those who are grieving or struggling with any kind of loss, couples and relationship issues, and compassion fatigue for those who care for others. While therapy is not easy, I believe change and healing are possible, regardless of your circumstances, hurts, or issues you are facing.

Ever feel like you don't matter? Feel lonely, disconnected and don't know where to turn? Well, you matter! Let's talk!! I have worked with adolescents and young adults for over 25 years. Often times people who identify outside the "norm" feel like they don't matter, they do! The world around you is so uncertain and at times and can be not safe. Maybe you have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, bullying, or you just feel marginalized. You need to feel safe to talk and work through your concerns. It's exhausting to carry that burden alone. I enjoy working with adolescents and teens, but also have a good rapport with adults.

I truly enjoy working with children, young adults and families to help identify behaviors that may be present due to trauma and underlying stressors they may experience.
Often, we forget about the stress and anxiety our children, teens and young adults are experiencing through traumatic daily life events. These experiences can lead individuals to feel broken and questioning their sense of purpose. Learning how to cope with these feelings and life stressors can help the individual identify their belonging in the world.

Are you tired of being so hard on yourself all the time? Want to feel more comfortable showing up as your authentic self? This can be so hard to do when ADHD makes you feel either ‘too much’ or ‘not enough’ and question where you even belong. Or when trauma and pain from your past keep you firmly stuck, hindering your ability to heal and move forward. Or maybe anxiety takes hold, leaving you on edge and questioning every move you make. Sometimes it all feels unbearable, sinking you into the depths of depression. If you've had enough of trying to go it alone and are ready for some help, I'm glad you are here.

In this day and age, it may be difficult to feel seen, heard, validated and appreciated. You may feel like there is no one around to discuss your thoughts and feelings with, or that doing so may burden them. We try to go it alone, but sometimes it just takes a bit of support and a listening ear to process stress and to release it. If you are going through marital or relationship stress, family or friend difficulties, you are struggling with grief, low self-esteem, or are experiencing trauma, such as, sexual assault or domestic violence, you are safe here.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
