Kelly has a passion for helping individuals work through trauma and the effects of trauma on their lives. She believes that trauma is many times the core root of numerous mental health concerns. She also holds to treating clients holistically; seeking to understand how their physical health, social supports, environment, spiritual or religious practices can impact and be incorporated into a person’s healing journey. Kelly has a Christian faith background and core and is willing to incorporate elements of faith into a person’s therapeutic process when it may be beneficial and the client desires to do so.

You may look like you have it together on the outside, but inside your mind is always running — questioning, overthinking, carrying anxiety, shame, or a constant sense that you’re not enough. Are you feeling stuck, angry, anxious, or finding little pleasure in life? Are you having trouble "getting over it"? Feeling unsatisfied or frustrated in your relationships? There is hope. Hurts can be healed, past or present. While I work with many different issues, I specialize in working with people with trauma, those who are grieving or struggling with any kind of loss, couples and relationship issues, and compassion fatigue for those who care for others. While therapy is not easy, I believe change and healing are possible, regardless of your circumstances, hurts, or issues you are facing.

You know there is something more and are searching for answers and relief. You may have done lots of self discovery and learning, but feel you're spinning your wheels. You may relate to feeling that if only thinking, worry, and logic could provide the answers... you would be living your ideal life by now. Modern life prioritizes the thinking mind. This often gets in the way of deeply knowing ourself and others. Maybe you're trying your best to do it all right, but it also doesn't seem to be working. If you're struggling with anxiety, trauma, burnout, or sadness, and have made it to this page, that's a start!

I work with adults, adolescents, couples, families, and children. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches uniquely catered to each client and based on a treatment plan that we develop together. I do not believe that each therapist is automatically the best person for every client that walks through their door, but that the client needs to "click" with the therapist they work with so they have room to do the work they need to do. The possibility for change is powerful and the therapeutic process is often a catalyst and a supportive environment for change.

The late comedian Harris Wittels once said, "we are all wonderful and horrible and figuring it out"; this statement is the basis for my approach to therapy. Before I decided to pursue a career in psychotherapy, I worked in comedy - rising in the administrative ranks at the famed Second City theater in Chicago. Now I use that improvisational ability to provide compassionate care to address depression and anxiety. I'm excited to meet you where you are and hope to have the honor of walking alongside you wherever you lead. You are deserving of peace and joy.

You’re the one everyone turns to—but lately, it feels like you’re running on empty. You hold it all together for everyone else, but inside, you’re overwhelmed, anxious, and tired of pretending you’re okay. The guilt, the racing thoughts, the pressure to be everything—it’s exhausting. You miss feeling calm, confident, and connected. Therapy can help you slow down, untangle the chaos, and finally breathe again. Together, we’ll work through the anxiety and the weight of the past so you can feel lighter, more present, and experience the peace you’ve been craving.

In my 30 years of clinical work, the majority of my clients want to solve a problem(s) or gain control of their life. Seeking out therapy can be difficult for a multitude of reasons. Reaching out to a therapist is similar to reaching out to a physician, chiropractor or physical therapist; healing! In therapy, you decide the goals you want to reach. I can assist you in determining your goals, if you're not sure of the starting point. The choice is yours! There are two therapy dogs in the office.

Despite doing your best to check all the boxes, you can't shake the feeling that something is missing-namely fulfillment, passion and feeling valued. It's like you're stagnant, not growing or contributing in a meaningful way. The things that once brought excitement might now feel hollow or unsatisfying. It is easy to slip into patterns of boredom or unhealthy habits, like drinking more than you'd like. You might feel disconnected from your partner, and may have been called "emotionally unavailable" by them. As the world continues to change, you're uncertain how to fit into it, but you know that life's too short to waste more time.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Jackson County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
