I enjoy engaging with people about their lives, hearing what matters to them, what's meaningful, and encouraging them to live lives in alignment with those preferences. I partner with people to feel the permission really to be alive. I find it important to keep the work connected to what clients value; that fuels the resilience to tolerate change, hard conversations, and uncomfortable feelings (common elements of therapy). Given this, my ideal client/s is interested in feeling more self-acceptance, capacity to tolerate others, and to face unhelpful, old patterns with love in order to encourage choice and the possibility of change.

Is your relationship falling short of all that you had hoped it would be? Has the stress from careers, daily living, children or families along with fatigue prevented you from experiencing the closeness and intimacy with your partner that you desire? Do you remember what brought you both together and long for the time when you were both free to just enjoy each other and felt deeply connected? It is easy to become distracted and slip into a routine.I want to help you reconnect with your partner and feel that closeness and love that brought you both together.

Hello there, I’m Andrea! But, please feel free to call me Andy. First off congratulations on seeking the support you deserve. I know it tends to be a difficult step in our journey towards healing. That being said, aren’t you tired of carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders and navigating through life in autopilot? Do you struggle to tolerate the distress that comes from everyday living? Are you constantly finding yourself trying to overcompensate from old wounds, betrayals, and childhood trauma?

I remember the first time I decided to seek therapy. I remember the mixed emotions of anxiety, fear, being overwhelmed, not knowing what to look for, or where to go. It can be especially hard if you identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. You can rest assured that all of those feelings are valid and normal. Don't let fear prevent you from reaching out for help with the issues you are going through. I am here to hold space for you and offer a supportive, unbiased, non-judgmental environment. I will stand by you on your healing journey as your guide. You don’t have to go through this alone.

We all possess natural wisdom and the inherent capacity for health and healing. By engaging in mindfulness and loving kindness practices and principles we can take an honest look at ourselves, cultivate gentleness and compassion and work more skillfully with the make-up that we have. With this as our foundation we can realize that times of difficulty and struggle are also opportunities for tremendous growth and discovery.

There is no ideal client, just an ideal concept, the belief in self. We work to build that through conversations about your past present and future, and conquering trauma as a means of living in the now.

***ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS*** ***I am also credentialed to do video therapy*** For more info check out my website and media interviews. I do not believe there is an ideal client. In my years of work I have encountered many people with many reasons for why they are the way they are. What I know is that if you are open to the process, we can figure it out. Most of my clients are nervous when they come for the first time, and rightfully so. It's anxiety provoking to talk to a stranger about your "stuff." Despite that hesitancy they overwhelmingly experience relief and begin to see a path forward after we start our work together.

Many people struggle with issues in their lives and can benefit from meeting with a trained professional. I help my clients identify problems and work toward a solution. Most problems can be solved with proper help and early treatment, which keeps small problems from becoming large ones that then seem unsolvable. I believe that each individual is unique, regardless if the issues are the same they are still different. Because of this belief, I provide an eclectic approach to therapy matching each individual needs with a specific therapuetic approach. If applicable and the client is interested hypno-therapy is available.

Experiential Therapy

How does experiential therapy work?

Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.

Is experiential therapy evidence-based?

Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.

How long does experiential therapy last?

The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

Does experiential therapy help with trauma?

Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
