The counseling world is shifting. The latest studies are proving that effective counseling goes beyond just talk therapy: it includes attention to both the mind and the body. I utilize experiential modalities, based on cutting-edge research and real-world experience by the world’s leading experiential practitioners. I combine this with classic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Somatic Experiencing (SE). Applying these tandem techniques in the counseling setting helps my clients attain tangible and life-altering changes.

My style of therapy is eclectic. I am not married to one approach in particular because no single approach is appropriate for everyone. I specialize in helping individuals with anxiety, mood disorders, addiction, OCD, identity, existential, and faith crises.

There are things in life that can lead us adrift, where we may feel that something is missing, have dissatisfaction with our life, or feel stuck in a situation that is draining and dysfunctional but do not know the way out. I’ve found the experiences of our developmental years, to often color the way we see the world, and can create patterns that hinder access to our true self, and thus, a full and conscious life. I believe that authenticity, resilience, and self-efficacy are crucial to living a satisfying life, and I want to help you move through the wounds that have kept you from getting there.

Ex-Mormons, Lifestyle, open relationships, Swingers and otherwise “sexual experimenters” are a big majority of my clientele because they are highly motivated and want results. That said, I’m really in the human behavior and brain science business. It's difficult if not impossible to develop self-confidence and enjoy the pleasures of sexual expression(s) when elements of trauma, shame and beliefs that you “can’t or shouldn’t” are present. It’s a rare person who hasn’t had their sexual beliefs hijacked at some point to where they “just can’t do it” (whatever that may be) by sheer force of will.

A pivotal time to try therapy is during young adulthood. It's a tough phase of life and it's not only challenging for the individual, but for their parents as well! There can be pressure in areas of sports, religion, school, and relationships, not to mention "what they're going to do with their life!" Transitioning into adulthood can be difficult, but I've seen it be a time of great progress for clients and their loved ones. I help clients find direction, learn to cope with anxiety, and find their own unique identity and strength. Don't wait too long to start living the life you want to be living.

It takes courage to admit you need help. Finding meaning and purpose in life, seeking truth, motivation, and a willingness to change: these are important life traits in your journey. The good news is, you often already have the answers. My job is to help you uncover what those truths are for you, and encourage you along this path. Constantly integrating and internalizing the obstacles and life lessons along one’s path helps. Sometimes they are uncomfortable and painful, but necessary in the journey towards healing. Set realistic goals and anything is possible. I will take you as you are, how you are, with no judgements.

I find people are far more capable and resilient than they realize. My approach to therapy is collaborative, eclectic and person-centered. Whether the challenge stems from anxiety, depression or conflict within your relationship, skills can be learned to navigate your life circumstance. Relationships make up the core of who we are as human beings and effort is needed to learn skills to communicate, have healthier conflict resolution or rebuild a relationship (with others and self).

Ask yourself, ‘If I could re-live the life I've been living, for eternity, would I?’ (I'm serious. Take this moment to pause and really think about that...). If your answer to that is 'no', it's time to make a change. Every day that you continue to suffer, be it from trauma, crippling anxiety, depression, or addiction, is time lost- you don't get it back. Don't put it off another day. Life is too short. Call us. We’re here to here to help, and I’m confident that, together, we can get you back to feeling hopeful and excited about life again.

Reaching out for help is uncomfortable! Coming to therapy takes a lot of courage. The world feels heavy and hard right now. Our relationships are suffering leaving us feeling anxious, lonely, or depressed. You may feel like no matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to communicate with your partner or family members. Maybe discussions turn into arguments that never seem to get resolved, leaving you both feeling hurt and alone. Perhaps you or your loved one are dealing with a faith transition and you feel lost and confused. It's hard to love so much and yet feel so distant and disconnected!

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
