You are doing so much, but you tell yourself it is not good enough. You walk by the mirror and check your reflection. Not good enough. Others give you praise, and you don't buy it; you may not even hear it. You keep telling yourself that when you reach your goal weight, you will be happy. When you finish this project at work, you will be happy. But those promises don't come true. Time and again you set a new goal, only to be let down. You want to break out of this cycle, but you don't know how. You may even feel ambivalent about asking for help, or making any changes.

I offer free brief initial consultations as I believe that finding a good fit with a clinician is the key to a successful therapeutic relationship. Some tools I use are honesty, humor, compassion, consistency, & positivity. I often say that I can find the silver lining in any situation; I work to share this gift with people. The world is ever-changing and lately it seems to be changing so quickly that we can hardly keep up. I am here to be a sounding board for you through life's transitions, as you balance your family and personal goals, or as you work on creating the best version of yourself. Life is messy; let's tackle it w/humor.

I enjoy working with people to help them reach their potential in life. Many people live through difficult experiences which tend to negatively impact them and stunt their ability to move forward. My goal is to help you overcome these obstacles to help you flourish. Whether it is anxiety, depression, anger or fear, I will work on determining what the underlying cause of the distress is. Counseling does not have to be long term. Many of my clients have had success over a short period of time in counseling while others have needed long term support.

Hello! If you are reading this and looking for help you are right where you need to be :) I like to think of myself as an "UNshrink" . I believe in helping to de-pathologize you and whatever it is that you are struggling w, and helping you to experience your self, situation, and LIFE in a whole new way. I'm usually a good fit for ppl that aren't into traditional "therapy" for whatever reason: anxiety, skepticism, bad or unsuccessful past experiences, if you think you, your family, everything is/are beyond hope, or if you are interested in something completely "outside the box", bc that is me.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
