Success is found in many forms and I will be honored to assist in your path ahead.
Reaching out for help can be terrifying especially when we're hurting. Throughout the past decade I've worked with University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work, Menninger Clinic, The Council on Recovery and Montrose Center. I have specific interest in working with men and couples who are looking to deepen intimacy within themselves and in their relationships. As an educator and clinical supervisor, I offer guidance to students as they establish and fine-tune their love for this work. I commit myself to co-creating a therapeutic environment where safety and growth are of top priority. We are in this together.

Deep inside of you is the awareness of what you need to heal. I help facilitate and unearth that inner wisdom with individuals, couples, and groups. Together, we'll practice tuning into your own unique embodied awareness. From there, we can translate that increased clarity into tangible action that aligns with your greatest, most authentic wellbeing. Our bodies exist within larger systems — many of which can disconnect us from ourselves and each other. We'll look together at the messages we've internalized from these systems in order to unearth the ones that are no longer helpful.

I am a collaborative, existential, hu manistic, and transpersonal psychotherapist that keeps an eye out for the big picture, whether that’s the relationship between bio-psycho-socio-spiritual health and one’s relationship with the natural world, or the potential meanings and purposes behind your daily struggles and “symptoms”—not to mention life’s tragedies.
By fostering deep and genuine connections with my clients, I help them develop deeper and more genuine connections with themselves. By clarifying what’s true for you—your needs, desires, conflicts, and dreams—the next step for you to take becomes clearer and less effortful. Together, we will resolve the stressors, conflicts, and adversities that weigh you down in order to find your flow—a way of being that’s more natural, enjoyable, and true to you. No matter how alone you’re feeling, how daunting the challenges you're facing, or how long a particular issue has been draining you, we’ll face it head on and find our way through.

Clear, calm and non-judgmental awareness of thoughts, emotions and physical presence are the foundations of a mindful approach to healing. As a clinician, I place great emphasis on creating a trusting environment where the mindful exploration of one's life, both today and in the past, can take place with ease and comfort and so we can work together to uncover the places where life seems stuck and unfulfilling or downright painful. Through the skillful means of multiple therapeutic tools, we will untangle your old habit patterns - whether they be old stories, emotional baggage, repetitive relational interactions or spiritual crisis.

I provide a supportive and compassionate environment to give my clients space to process past trauma, current stress, and anxiety about the future. My practice integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, mindfulness training, and Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR). Using these frameworks we will examine how past experiences impact your current functioning. We will identify traumatic experiences, dysfunctional thoughts and destructive behavior patterns. Then use EMDR and talk therapy to shift the beliefs that reinforce these habits to relieve psychological and emotional suffering.

I offer you my kindness, respect and years of my own dedicated self work. Listening, presence and experience is a big part of what I bring to our sessions. We work to activate your highest or most authentic self. I also aim to heal the trauma in the body. I am Jungian based, using EMDR, mindfulness psychology, and somatic approaches, all to deepen your relationship to yourself.

The greatest joy comes when clients break free of painful patterns and move to feeling comfortable with life. I've been a counselor for 25 years, with extensive experience helping those struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and addictions. Getting at underlying issues of shame, loss of control and grief changes lives. When therapy works there's more than just insight; clients feel it in their heart as well as their head. Those around them see that they have a life worth living with more happiness and better handling of the inevitable potholes.

I have helped many survivors of childhood trauma and neglect to develop a felt sense of safety to explore new choices.
"When you come into therapy it is a time to expand the sense of yourself. Our job is to get familiar with the values that have helped you get through difficult situations and use them now. You may be a combat veteran, mental health or law enforcement worker having family or relationship problems. You need clear and practical strategies for replacing automatic reactions with mindful responses. Feeling understood by another hu man being is useful for flexible problem solving and clarifying your values. The majority of my experience is working with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD will definitely get better with knowledgeable treatment."

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
