While I'm open to who comes to me, I have found myself working mostly with adults—primarily men, both straight and gay—who are navigating challenges such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, life transitions, or relationship difficulties. They may feel stuck or overwhelmed and are seeking to understand the deeper emotional roots of their struggles. Their goal is to gain insight into patterns that may be holding them back and to develop healthier ways of coping. They want to find authenticity in their lives, overcoming self-defeating thoughts and behaviors to achieve personal growth and a more fulfilling life.

Most of us at one time or another encounter difficulties with others or ourselves. These difficulties can result in anxiety, depression or other symptoms, the treatment for which often is therapy. Therapy can be challenging in that it requires work to understand our emotions and our inner selves. Therefore I believe therapy is best conducted in an atmosphere of support, compassion, warmth and humor. My goal is to provide such an environment in which we are working together

For Gay, Bi, Queer Men, unresolved pain and unnamed hunger create severe ruptures in our here and now. Disruptive mood patterns and compulsions are signs of emotional injury that deserve a space to be held and cared for. Without language, we use our bodies and relationships to resolve the unresolved. Therapy is a place for this work and can be where the mind, body, & spirit become a family again. I support folx through a healing and relational framework to reconnect with values, hoping to take committed action towards goals and wishes. My work is focused on supporting gay, bi, and queer men to find integration.

My ideal client is someone who is struggling with addiction, trauma, or overwhelming life challenges and is seeking a path to healing that resonates with their unique needs. They may feel disconnected from their core values and long for a life that aligns with their authentic self. Their goals include finding inner peace, self-compassion, and a sustainable way to move forward, whether through a 12-Step program or another route that honors their personal journey.

I know how many mental health appointments simply leave a person feeling that they have one more knot to undo, one more stuck point lingering.
I help you get to the heart of your inner conflicts with questions like: What are the different parts of your personality? Why do you keep repeating the same patterns over and over? Why do you choose one emotional response over another? If you're experiencing addictive patterns (either to substances or behaviors), I can help you find autonomy even if you feel you're self-sabotaging. I am also adept at addressing men's issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Anyone who is committed to self-reflection will benefit from my non-pathologizing approach to emotional balance.

Life comes with its challenges, and in a world where there can at times seem to be a collective sense of pain, I view therapy as a journey that provides us with the opportunity to become more in tune with ourselves. In doing so, we develop new ways to prevail and thrive. Being a queer person of color, I have dedicated my time in the field to supporting those who have lived similar experiences to my own. In sessions, I seek to create a trusting relationship that highlights your strengths.

Starting therapy can be daunting, so I will work hard to help you feel safe and comfortable as we begin our work together. I help clients achieve goals such as coping well with distressing emotions and thoughts, improving self-care, and achieving relationship satisfaction. I focus on longstanding factors -- such as various aspects of your identity and upbringing -- that contribute to who you are, while providing interventions and insights designed to help you with your current needs and struggles. Diversity of sexual and gender identities are areas of specialty.

Hello. Thanks for stopping by. I’m a therapist who specializes in helping those struggling with anxiety, trauma, self-harm, personality disorders, attachment issues, neurodivergence (Autism, OCD, ADHD), and sexuality/kink concerns. In addition to being a therapist, I’m also a philosopher, and will implement an integrated view on wellness to help you make sense of your concerns, empower you, and give you the tools to live your best life. My goal is to help you actually get better, not just feel better as a result of our sessions. To do this, I aim to be warm and welcoming, but will compassionately challenge you when necessary.

Life is a journey and we aren't meant to travel alone. Sometimes it's helpful to have a person to travel the path with you, to shine light in the dark places. Engaging in counseling is one way in which to get support with your struggles. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, school, issues of faith, addictions or any other disruption to your life, I would love to get to know you and to help shine light in the dark places.

Even if you've done this before, it's not always an easy decision to find a therapist. I appreciate that you're taking this step toward finding someone you feel might be a good fit. Therapy is most successful when a person feels some connection with their therapist. I take a down-to-earth, supportive, conversational approach that, especially at first, helps sessions feel comfortable and allows some time for us to get to know each other. I believe how we see ourselves is rooted in our history and that it can be powerful to identify ways we learned to think about ourselves and others.

Hi, I have openings on Monday afternoon and evening for virtual sessions, and Tuesday and Wednesday for either virtual or in-person sessions. If that works for your schedule, please reach out. Otherwise I am full at the moment. I work best with people who a) think they are too smart for therapy, or too smart to be generally understood, b) have been struggling with the same problem for many years, and/or c) could benefit from insight in addition to empathy.

These are uncertain times. Therapy can be an anchor as we all weather the unpredictable circumstances of our lives and the world around us. It can be a place to grow, heal, or make changes in your live that feel difficult. I work with clients who need help managing anxiety, are feeling sad or confused, or are going through a hard time. I see my job as sitting next to you, seeing the world through your eyes, and helping you come up with the plan that's right for you. I come from a relational and social justice perspective and bring tools from narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness based stress reduction.

I often think of therapy as similar to mountaineering: We tether to another person as we build trust and explore the natural landscape of our hu manness. At times treacherous and scary; at times awe-inspiring and profound. The point is not to curate this expanse, but instead to build familiarity so that we can be more sure-footed as we walk through our lives with increasing skill... Comfort and ease within the chaos and uncertainty that can be everyday life.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
