I tend to use a CBT approach, and when appropriate creative interventions ( art therapy, journaling, behavior charts, etc) for personal growth can be incorporated.
Life can be really challenging and if you feel overwhelmed by it all, you are not alone. Maybe the existing cracks in your “normal” world are now blown so wide open you cannot see the other side? Through my work in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings I have witnessed first-hand how damaging stress, anxiety, depression, insecurities, loneliness, and low self-esteem can be. Often current coping measures are causing more harm than good, and new ways need to learned. Clients hold the expertise regarding their lives and they know what is helpful and what they are willing to try.

The most important p art of therapy is building a good rapport with the individual to create a safe and comfortable space. Therapy isn't always easy and neither is the decision to find a therapist; working to ensure clients are comfortable with me and helping them to identify their goals so that the treatment trajectory is predictable, but allows for space to talk about day to day events, if needed. Lastly, ensuring client and therapist personalities align is important as it only enhances the sense of safety and the capacity for positive rapport growth.

People come to see me when they feel stuck: having a hard time with using substances, managing life stress, finding direction or hemmed in by the past. They don’t know what to do or where to turn. The solutions don’t work anymore or have turned into problems of their own. One problem may have stopped only for several others to emerge. Trying feels difficult. Life is hard.

In addition to Art Therapy, I utilize cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy to address trauma, anxiety, depression and adjustment issues as well as to treat a variety of other diagnosis and women specific issues.
Hello! Thanks for stopping by. Currently accepting virtual or in person clients for my Mendon location in September! Are you feeling like you are struggling to be the best version of yourself? Feeling stuck or hopeless, having family stress, life transition stress? I believe that everyone can benefit from counseling- even the most capable and healthy people can go through low or dark times which might require a little extra support. For those with more serious mental illnesses, these times can exacerbate existing struggles, making everything feel harder.

Whether to gain healthier coping strategies or to foster a more meaningful relationship with yourself, your child or partner, I enjoy working with clients who may be apprehensive to st art therapy and those eager to begin their journey.
Through years of home and community-based mental health experience, I've developed a passion for helping children, adolescents, and adults deepen their connections to others and to themselves. For adults and parents, children and teens, I bring a warm, collaborative and client-centered approach to therapy.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
