I work with individuals between the ages of 13-65 on issues related to: Addictions, marital/relationship struggles, anxiety/depression, overcoming fear and shame, living an authentic and purposeful life, embracing vulnerability, military men/women/families and death/dying/grief. I also enjoy working with professionals struggling with Impostor Syndrome and other professional issues. I believe that optimal mental and relational health is first achieved by establishing healthy habits in the areas of nutrition, exercise, mindfulness/prayer/meditation, and social connections.

Now, more than ever, we are understanding the long-term and pervasive effects that trauma can have on a person's well-being. Trauma can stem from a single violent traumatic event, or events that typically don't involve violence or disaster, but do create significant distress. Anxiety, fear, anger, irritability, depression, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after distressing events, or lived experiences. I work with clients presenting with a range of trauma, past, and present. I provide collaborative & client-centered care that integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the human condition.

I am the author of the book Cycle Breaker: A Guide to Transcending Childhood Trauma. In my work with clients, I use what I have learned as a trauma therapist for 25 years to support people who want to get unstuck and create a life they love. Most people don’t realize they have suffered childhood trauma, but are confused why they are angry, anxious, depressed and have unfulfilling relationships. I help people connect the dots between their current struggles and their unprocessed wounds from the past. I don't just help people with symptoms, I help them get to the root cause of their suffering, so they can enjoy sustainable change.

"Everyone faces struggles at some point in life, and it is courage which allows us to seek help during those times. Common issues such as depression, anxiety, relational conflict, behavioral and emotional problems, and difficulty adjusting to life transitions can all be very oppressive, yet we can often work toward more helpful ways to manage these challenges. Asking for help can be hard, and it is usually the hard things that are worth doing."

Trauma is common and over half of all people will have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. It does not have to continue to disrupt life. My mission is to help people find their power again and move past their trauma so they can live their best life in accordance with their values and goals and fully live and enjoy their lives. I use trauma informed care first and foremost along with a blend of other modalities in order to help clients find their own strength in managing their symptoms, learning self-compassion, and regaining their internal locus of control.

Not all clients arrive to therapy with the same issues or the same rooting point, so therapy needs to be unique to each individual. I provide a space to establish how clients see therapy happening and I am there to help guide the process in a healthy manner. The space belongs to the client, not me.

Working through challenges can be a difficult process, one in which people are sometimes hesitant to do. Often people feel like in order to go to a counselor, they must be at their lowest point. When truthfully, counseling is just a tool that can help people understand how to be the best version of themselves. Whether that’s focusing on how you affect those around you or developing ways to build your confidence, counseling is designed to meet you where you are and help address the obstacles that are holding you back.

Guided by an overarching humanistic perspective, I believe individuals possess an innate motivation for personal growth. Life provides occasional, and sometimes persistent, obstacles that hinder our motivation to endure the emotional turbulence accompanying the path to our full potential. A person’s journey is as unique as their fingerprint, and the therapeutic process is no different. Whether your goals are interrupted due to internal or external factors, I strive to deliver treatment catered to the individual and their influences.

As someone who is grieving or suffering through a life transition, you often find yourself wondering will I feel better, can I feel better? It seems like you’ve tried everything but nothing seems to work, at least not for very long. Imagine what it would feel like to move forward, what would it be like if your life wasn’t controlled by your pain? A life transition can be planned or unplanned, positive or negative. They may be dramatic as in accidents, death, divorce, job loss or serious illness or can come from positive experiences such as getting married, going away to college, starting a new job, moving away or giving birth.

I specialize in working with adults, teenagers, and families through the pain of depression, anxiety, grief, and concerns regarding religious trauma, relationship/marital conflict, and trauma.
In the words of Walt Whitman, via Ted Lasso, "Be curious, not judgemental." These words are great advice as we interact with others in our life, but even more true when we are addressing our inner world. To accomplish this, I strive to curate an empathic and safe environment to discover the confusing and painful parts of your life. I will provide a collaborative experience toward self-reflection and self-understanding. We will venture into the power of self-compassion by facing those places where we feel like we are not enough.

Whether you prefer movies, television, or books; the most resonating stories address these common themes and reflect the depth and breadth of life. As such, your own story is naturally filled with such complexities. Life is full of hurt, disappointment, and brokenness. Even in the midst of difficulty, we often long for a sense of joy, hope, belonging, healing, and peace. Things like anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, and relational conflict can leave deep wounds and a sense of hopelessness. While there is often never a way to "fix" everything that's broken in our lives, I am a firm believer that healing and restoration is possible and counseling is a wonderful tool to move towards healing and a sense of wholeness.

I work with a variety of children and individuals presenting with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Grief and Loss, Infertility/Women’s health, & Perfectionism.
“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are." Sometimes we lose ourselves along the way for whatever reason, be it trauma, loss, depression, anxiety or any number of human experiences. And guess what? It’s okay! You are not alone! When we are disconnected with ourselves, our thoughts lead us to believe we are not good enough or worthy of connection. But you are. It is so brave to want to grow, heal, and rediscover yourself. True healing comes from connection with others and authenticity to the self. I am here to meet you where you are!

I work with children, adults and families dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, ADHD, divorce, family conflict, parenting, grief, self-esteem and life changes.
I have worked as a school counselor for the past several years and am now enjoying private practice as well. Counseling in a school setting has granted me the opportunity to work with my students and their family members. Exploring family systems and fostering an understanding between family members is one of my greatest passions. I also enjoy working with adults that are going through the many challenges and changes that life can throw at us. As the poet Mary Oliver so beautifully puts it "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? " —Mary Oliver

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
