My therapy & counseling are based on the life experiences and the philosophy of Viktor Frankl. His writings describe the kinds of the situation from which he and his fellow prisoners at Auschwitz were able, on a day-to-day basis, to extract the life-sustaining meaning that was essential to their survival. My therapy has three levels: (1) use mindfulness and relaxation methods to calm the emotional brain down, and (2) use cognitive-behavioral to develop a healthy sense of resiliency. In the 3rd stage, you will learn self-distancing techniques to discover meaningfulness at the moment and find better ways to expand your uniqueness.

I believe psychotherapy is a mixture of psychoeducation (providing information to help people develop new coping and relationship skills), emotional processing (learning to identify and work through uncomfortable feelings), and corrective emotional experience (using the counseling relationship as a safe place to experiment with new interpersonal skills). I utilize a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (addressing how our thoughts and beliefs impact our emotional experience, self-image, and behavior); Family Systems Therapy (helping people gain insight into characteristic relationship patterns); and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (understanding how ways of coping developed earlier in life may not serve us well in the present).

I practice from a holistic perspective that is rooted in a biblical worldview, empowered by the gospel story, and aided by interpersonal theory.
Why would anyone choose to open up to a complete stranger about pain and difficulty that is intensely personal? We often keep our problems to ourselves - for lots of understandable reasons - until we hit a wall and, in the 11th hour of fleeting hope, the hurt propels us to reach out for help. I am no different; I’ve been there before, and my passion is meeting people in the hour of greatest need to offer help and hope. I would be honored to speak with you about working together for healing, growth, and transformation.

Do you ever wonder why your child engages in certain behaviors? All behavior has meaning and not knowing all the answers about your child can bring up a lot of different emotions. Mindful Guidance offers both individual and family therapy, as well as comprehensive ADHD assessments that are strengths-based and tailored specifically to the needs of your child and family. I recognize that growth takes time and can evoke strong emotions. As such, I work with you to foster a safe space to process situations, relationships, and events in your child's life to help set them up for success.

Through my personal and professional experiences I am equipped to see each individual, family, or couple differently than any other therapist. There is no judgment, no condemnation, and no reason to continue to deal with your situation alone. Regardless of what you are going through or what your needs are, I believe that I can help provide hope, growth, and peace. I never want the lack finances to get in the way of therapy, so please don't hesitate to contact me to see if something can be worked out to fit your needs.

My passion is helping people achieve healthy relationships that honor, strengthen, and validate the people in them. I enjoy helping young men and women to build significant and open relationships on their way through dating and engagement as well as working with them on tools to address the conflict in their marriage. Often times unchecked anxiety leads to depression and I have many effective tools for people who struggle in attending to their anxiety in an effective way. I work with addictions of all kinds in a non shaming, caring, effective, and healing way.

I am a firm believer that the only thing that separates a counselor/therapist from the client is a current need. With this belief, I strive to help clients through current life struggles in a non-judgmental environment. My work is informed through collaboration with clients, education, experience, and empathy. As a professional counselor and social worker, my comprehensive approach to therapy enables clients to identify and change the patterns that often create barriers to emotional, social, educational, and occupational growth.

You're feeling overwhelmed with more demands on your time than you have energy to manage. Each morning you wake up and tell yourself, "Today it's going to be different," but by the end of the day nothing seems to have changed. Stress, anxiety, and depression have moved in, and it's hard to imagine a world where you don't feel this way every single day.

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
