Constant anxiety and exhaustion, right? And can we talk about the off-brand crankiness you feel so guilty about? I know you wish you weren’t, but you’re sensitive. Your superpower? You can tell with stunning accuracy what anyone around you is feeling and make sense of what would make the situation better. This makes you great in a crisis and a deft caregiver (and you have given a lot of care). But you can’t turn it off, so you struggle to know what your own needs and boundaries are, let alone meet them. I am neurodivergent with a history of complex trauma. I understand from the inside and I can help you make sense of yourself, too.

Every person is unique, each with their own narratives and perspectives. I subscribe to the belief that a new therapy is constructed for each person I work with. From the outset of treatment on through a process of self-discovery— challenging circumstances, past traumas, and negative belief structures lay the groundwork for seeds of strength and growth. All individuals possess the capacity to change their lives and I will work with you to process adversity and conflict into resilience and peace.

We can't always choose our burdens, but we can choose how we carry them. Some of us learned the only way to protect ourselves was to isolate, not getting out of bed, endlessly scrolling, and pulling away from the world. Some learned to be on alert, plan for the worst, be ready to fight, and never let their guard down. The good news is we aren't destined to repeat the same patterns for the rest of our lives. Learning to trust ourselves and protecting ourselves in healthy ways rather than harmful ways is possible and closer than we may think.

Step into the realty that YOU are the Ancient, Eternal, Infinite, One, and Unchanging LIGHT shining through the flesh-and-blood prism known as the self. In other words, YOU are the Driver, and what YOU see in the mirror is the Vehicle. Like every good mechanic, I listen to both Driver and Vehicle. Remember: You are NOT anxious, depressed, or fearful, your vehicle is.

I am a therapist specializing in trauma, depression, anxiety, and insecure attachment styles. If you grew up feeling invalidated, misunderstood, or mistreated by your family of origin, you might struggle with your relationships and mental health as an adult. You’ve probably heard of attachment styles and know you want to work on yours, but you aren’t sure where to start. Instead, you feel stuck in endless cycles of people-pleasing, disconnection, poor communication styles, fatigue, hypervigilance, harsh self-criticism, and low self-esteem.

The most important part of the therapeutic relationship is feeling you have a rapport with your therapist. When life gets difficult, it feels refreshing to have an outside independent perspective on life decisions. I will continue to offer empathy and support, as well as a healthy amount of advice and my objective opinion. I have had too many client's throughout the years that was able to gain empathy in the therapeutic relationship, however missed out on the objective input.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
