Our mental health is usually not where it should be on our long list of priorities in our busy lives. Feelings of depression, anxiety, and/or fear can manifest themselves in the mind body and soul without warning, making life difficult to navigate. Sometimes our lives “program” us to respond/react to certain situations in a way that’s no longer helpful. These feelings don’t only impact us but also seep into our relationships and things start feeling out of control. You don’t have to feel this way!

I see psychotherapy as an emotionally reparative relationship. We are hurt by people, and we are healed by people as well. After over 35 years of this privilege of helping others explore the issues that have created barriers to their experience of a full and flourishing life, I have learned that human beings are amazingly resilient, and they can heal and grow and experience new beginnings. We are never limited by our past, but we sometimes need help figuring out how to accept and work through the grief and disappointments of our past before we can create new patterns of health and connection.

We know what we believe when we hear what we say. This is the collaboration that is therapy. Many people get to a point in their lives when they feel stuck. Friends and family who used to be able to help are no longer able to, or don’t know how. During these times, it can be beneficial to have a relationship that is different, one in which you can share honestly without feeling judged or misunderstood and, in turn, be asked questions that can enhance insight and spur positive change. Welcome to therapy! As a therapist, I am welcoming, compassionate and curious. Therapy can be hard, so my goal is to help you to feel safe and accepted while engaged in a journey that will naturally involve some discomfort.

New beginnings can often be disguised as painful endings. I work closely with those who have been through tragic events, suffered childhood abuse, those who have been victimized by others, as well as those who might feel like they have nowhere left to turn. My goal is to help you find your inner strength, and to courageously be free to display it and be proud. I am empathetic to my client’s needs, ambitious to provide support, and offer a nonjudgmental space for you to share and truly be heard.

As a multiethnic, multicultural woman of color, child of an immigrant, and trauma-informed associate clinical social worker with a background in gender studies, I approach my work with an intersectional lens. I consider the whole human being as well as the various systems they are part of and the effect these systems have on a person’s life. It is important to me that I am mindful of how my client perceives the world and how the world perceives them. As a trauma-informed yoga instructor, I also consider how emotions can show up somatically.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
