It was Irvin Yalom who said something to the effect that "psychotherapy is like a dress rehearsal for life". With this said, it is my intention to not only offer you support in therapy but to also help you generalize the skills you learn in therapy and apply them in your outside life and relationships. I specialize in anger and anxiety management for adults and adolescents. I hold an Anger Management Certification. I also enjoy working with highly intelligent adults and teens who have a difficult time adjusting and adapting socially. This includes working with individuals on the high functioning end of the Autism scale.

My grandfather used to tell me: “Write your life in pencil for it will surely change”. While we can be certain that our life and circumstances will change throughout life, what we can rely on is our ability to adapt. I view counseling as an opportunity to help you figure out how to adapt to the curveballs life throws at us. Whether that is learning new coping skills, gaining a fresh perspective, or just needing a listening ear, I believe that you too can adapt. I have experience in areas such as depression, anxiety, adjustment, oncology, chronic illness, and grief and loss.

Reaching out for support is the first crucial step in the process of healing and change. As a therapist it is my life's passion to be that support to those who are searching for more, struggling with their current season of life and/or are at a loss for direction. At any stage of life when our mind and heart have decided that a change is necessary and that it is time to begin that process, having a knowledgeable, open-minded, and compassionate person to walk the journey with us is crucial. It is my hope to work with those who are ready, if even in the smallest way, to begin their journey of hope and healing.

These difficult and unprecedented times are causing an increase in anxiety and depression. I am a Christian who is a counselor. I work with people of all faiths as well as those who do not have any particular spiritual viewpoint. It is my aim to treat all of my clients with compassion and integrity. I will take the time to get to know you, and help you get to know yourself. Throughout the decades, I have practiced a variety of counseling techniques that we can tailor to suit your individual needs and personality. "Welcome to your life... only better!"

I am dedicated to working with you to help you find your ability to deal with life and it's challenges by calling on your natural resources and capabilities and seeking a solution that is yours. I believe in the right to self-determination and that all people should have the capability to obtain what they want for their life through the power of therapy. I have worked with veterans of foreign wars, mature adults, teenagers and all kinds of people in between. I find the ability to explore life, understand ourselves and our situation better creates lasting happiness.

Life can be hard, painful, confusing, scary, and challenging. Events happen that leave us reeling with brokenness, grief, disbelief, guilt, fear, insecurity, and shame. We don't know what to do or which way to turn or how we got here in the first place. We may hold onto false beliefs about our self-worth, negative thoughts that tear us apart, relationships that are toxic, and behaviors that are destructive. All in an attempt to somehow alleviate how we are feeling. I am here to partner with you in working towards wholeness and healing and to empower you to move forward, happily and confidently.

Dr. T specializes in various evidence-based practices and frameworks, particularly around issues affecting Black, Indigenous, and other persons of color and the LGBTQIA+ community. Dr. T works with individuals, families, couples, and groups aged 6-80. Occasionally, I am paired with people who need support with concerns outside my field of practice. I may lack the appropriate knowledge and resources to provide the ethical and competent care you deserve. Individuals actively experiencing issues with Eating Disorders, Religion, Family/Domestic Violence, or Anger are encouraged to consider other clinicians.

I enjoy helping individual adults, couples, and families recognize and overcome any problematic cognitive or behavioral patterns that play a role in holding them back from living their best lives. Sometimes these problematic patterns center around how we think about things like our own worthiness, the trustworthiness of others, and what a successful parent/partner/worker "looks" like. We have been learning these core beliefs about ourselves and the world since before we could walk. Sometimes we stop updating those core beliefs when we get new information and we become stuck. My therapeutic style focuses on safety and empowerment. I may be the clinician, but I honor the fact that you are the expert of your own life. I build trust by wearing my heart on my sleeve. I would never ask you to risk your vulnerability if I am unwilling to risk my own. I may use humor to foster hope & ease discomfort. I welcome you to question my perspectives to improve the power of our cocreated insights. We will collaborate to develop ways for you to make new choices, break old patterns, and build more effective supports. I believe that we are all placed in a specific place and time for a greater purpose. Life is hard and many of us lose our way and this leads to confusion, lonliness and often we develop addictive and maladaptive behaviors to deal with our issues. Our issues are real but we go about solving them in a nonproductive way. I help a client look at alternative ways of living often pulling from his strengths and encouraging him to incorporate spirituality as a guide. I am a Christ follower and incorporate His teaching into my own life and therapy.
