As a first-gen, Latinx individual myself, I know the unique struggles and can relate to your experiences.
Are you motivated and looking for change? Maybe you're seeking to identify patterns of behavior that might stem from childhood and are ready to make some changes. My ideal client is someone like you—driven to improve their life, but facing challenges along the way. You might be a first-gen individual, a member of the BIPOC or LGBTQIA+ communities, or someone who lives an alternative lifestyle. Your needs could range from healing past traumas to navigating relationship conflicts, and your goals might include building healthier relationships, achieving emotional well-being, or embracing your identity.

I am a bilingual (English & Spanish) therapist with extensive experience working with the Latinx community, bicultural couples and families.
You're feeling overwhelmed with all the changes in your life. Maybe it’s adjusting to marriage, parenthood or dealing with postpartum. Maybe the spark has left your marriage and you've started having an affair, or you're feeling upside down having just discovered your partner is having an affair. Maybe you just got divorced and feel like you lost your identity. Or you're worried about the impact the divorce will have on your children. Whatever it is, you feel like you have no one to turn to, no one to confide in, and your mind is filled with racing thoughts.

Whether you're adjusting to grief and loss, a major change in your life or healing from trauma, I can support you in breaking cycles that are keeping you stuck. I've worked with patients from different backgrounds and have seen that we can not only heal trauma, but THRIVE after it. Post traumatic growth is achievable through therapy and gaining healthy coping skills. Together we can look at things like family of origin and life history patterns that may be impeding your happiness and growth. I offer a warm, safe space for you to process what needs to be resolved and help you learn new ways to cope.

If you’ve stumbled across this ad, you must be in need of some support. I am passionate about helping people work through life experiences that increase depression, anxiety, addiction, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. My focus is to decrease the symptoms that are impacting the quality of your life and improve your relationship with yourself and others. During my life, I have lived through many experiences that caused severe emotional distress. I tried, unsuccessfully, to manage the impact mental health symptoms had over my life that felt out of control. Something needed to change.

Hispanic and Latino Therapists

What makes a Hispanic and Latino therapist effective?

An effective Hispanic and Latino therapist can combine a culturally sensitive lens with proven therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). They may have an understanding of cultural attitudes to therapy, including potential stigma, and can help a client navigate those concerns. Some clients may also appreciate a therapist who is bilingual and is comfortable conversing with the client in both English and Spanish. Languages spoken are indicated on a therapist’s directory profile.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist is respectful and considerate of all groups, and may have specific expertise with individuals of a certain ethnicity. These considerations can help a client feel understood and can improve the therapeutic alliance. While some people think highlighting race and ethnicity could promote stereotypes and bias, most agree that knowledge about cultural differences enhances the alliance between therapist and client.

How can I recognize a therapist who has expertise working with Hispanic and Latino clients?

Successful therapy depends a great deal on the relationship between client and therapist. Start by asking the therapist about their overall approach to therapy. You may then wish to ask about the therapist’s educational background and any additional training in cultural sensitivity that they have undertaken.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Hispanic and Latino clients?

Ask a potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share this background or whether they’ve worked in these communities. If so, you may wish to ask them to elaborate on ways that they feel especially prepared to work with Hispanic and Latino clients. If they have not worked with such clients, they may know someone who has and be able to make a referral.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Hispanic and Latino therapists?

The directory of Hispanic and Latino therapists includes providers who have identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists near you who identify as Hispanic and Latino is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
