I specialize in supporting teens & young adults experiencing complicated grief, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.
Have you experienced a loss that has left you grieving more than just the loss itself? You might be grieving a person you thought you knew or a future you always imagined. Grief might feel numb—staying as busy as possible to avoid confronting the pain. Or it might feel crushing—like you can’t do anything without being reminded of what you’ve lost. Maybe you’re a young adult who’s trying to figure out who you actually want to be in life. You’re noticing patterns in your relationships that leave you feeling like something is wrong with you. You’re wondering what’s missing, and you want to get to the bottom of it.

I’ll provide you with the guidance and support to let your grief unfold organically rather than fighting against it.
Overnight, everything changed. One moment, your wife was there; the next, she wasn’t. You’re struggling to even wrap your mind around it. This immense grief has permeated every aspect of your life. You can’t sleep, food has lost its taste, and all the color in your world has turned to a muted shade of gray. The future used to be a source of hope and excitement, but now it just feels unknown and frightening. Everything that once felt solid has become unstable. You’re at the mercy of your raging emotions, and it’s terrifying. You want desperately to find your way out of this storm of grief, but it feels impossible and hopeless.

You're finding yourself at a crossroads and you've come to the right place. You envision one day feeling acceptance and liberation from the experiences that currently feel burdensome. You're ready to come home to yourself and but not sure how. What would it be like to no longer navigate these hardships alone, but with someone knowledgeable, affirming, and nurturing? Maybe you are navigating grief or relationship difficulties. You are discovering your identity and exploring sexuality or gender. You're suffering from body image distress wondering if there's a way forward or if you'll always feel discontent with your body.

I specialize in grief, complex PTSD, sexual trauma, family of origin dynamics, children and adolescents, mood disorders, recovery from emotional abuse/neglect, sex & intimacy issues.
Experiencing grief, trauma, or relationship challenges can hinder our ability to feel calm and clear-headed as we navigate our lives. Symptoms like anxiety, depression, reactivity, or codependency may have become familiar, creating obstacles to personal growth. Strained interactions? Feeling out of control? This distress can be overwhelming, discouraging, and utterly exhausting; processing these difficult experiences alone tends to exacerbate the problem. People seek my support to explore their past safely, gain insight, and heal; fostering their unique strengths and increasing their capacity for insight, transformation, and growth.

My clients work on stress management and on healthy ways to cope with relationship barriers, grief and loss, creative/academic/work challenges, and life transitions. They enjoy a mature and licensed collaborator as they make changes in or learn to live with a difficult situation. They learn and practice skills that illuminate their choices. They identify their strengths and use them in new ways. They see how perceptions and behavior affect well-being. My clients benefit from a well-rounded experienced therapist (in my case, over 30 years), and they describe me as warm, practical, good-humored, respectful, and nonjudgmental.

I have extensive experience in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and grief.
Finding a sense of peace and fostering intimate relationships are lifelong goals. Whether these goals seem permanently elusive or temporarily unattainable, I help adults travel forward on this journey. Along with my client, I strive to create a safe place in which to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; increase self-awareness; and develop a more satisfying life. While the leap of faith to engage in therapy can be enormous, I believe that the power of therapy to enrich our lives to be even greater. You may wish to check out my videos on my website.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
