You are likely seeking relief and clarity to thoughts, behaviors, and feelings that are not working for you. Simply put, something is stuck. I work with people to transform painful and frustrating experiences. For some, this looks like grief work. Others explore relationship struggles. I work with clients to bring awareness to their body, mind, and spirit to assist them in growing a deeper sense of their stories and desires. My ultimate goal is that you will have a growing sense of what it means for you to engage your world with a deepening sense of aliveness.

I view therapy as a relational and collaborative process between counselor and client(s) that focuses on clients' personal goals and desires for change. I work with clients to understand their current difficulties, thoughts, and feelings as well as look at how their past experiences and relationships impact their current situation. Engaging in therapy has many benefits such as alleviating anxiety and dissatisfaction, learning better coping skills, improving relationships with others, increasing self awareness, and finding greater personal meaning.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by habits and mindsets that you can't seem to get out of? Have you tried all the techniques but still can't seem to shake the anxious thoughts that invade your mind? Do you often find yourself triggered from a past experience or relationship that keeps surfacing and stopping you in your tracks? Do you continue to return to relationship patterns and relationship choices that you told yourself you would never engage in again? Do you struggle with self worth and body image? Do you feel overall stuck and like there is deeper work that needs to be done?

Brené Brown says that “sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” My clients are those who want to show up for themselves. They are often deeply-feeling, highly-sensitive people who have struggled to integrate all parts of themselves, but who are ready to experience the confidence that comes from owning painful chapters of their stories. My clients have often survived trauma and want to meet their past in a way that opens up freedom for their future. In other words, my clients are brave change-makers who haven’t yet fully realized that their sensitivity is perhaps their greatest superpower.

I enjoy working with folks have felt like outsiders in family and community. I get needing a place to rest. My focus is working with gender traumas, anxiety and helping clients navigate transitions of all sorts. I use an approach that looks at how we exist in the world and examines suffering from a personal perspective, but also from a social justice, feminist and transformative justice perspective. I believe this is your time, space and story to tell. I work with plurals and systems and am often referred to clients from therapists who do not feel comfortable working with system folx.

I have been working in the mental health field for over twenty years. Throughout that time I have worked in a variety of settings, all of which have given me a wealth of experience to draw upon. I have always had a passion for the work of psychotherapy, which I feel is ultimately about inner exploration and transformation. Most people come to psychotherapy because they feel like they are stuck in some way. Having another mind and perspective can help to get things moving where they once were stuck. With a spirit of curiosity and collaboration I work with my patients to seek out what may be obstructing their continued growth.

We all have an image of our best self. This is the person we'd be if we just weren't so tired, so anxious, so angry or so depressed. I think about my work as the process of helping people to become who they already know they are - or could be. Our work together is to find out why you feel those things in the first place so you can move past them and start feeling happier, more productive and more connected to the life you want.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
