I believe that living your life authentically is a core of life satisfaction. Sometimes our trauma, loss, or worry makes us avoid living in a truly authentic way. These experiences can lead to post traumatic stress, depression, and/or anxiety. I care about who you are intrinsically, and will work with you to process those painful experiences, cope with anxiety, and reach a point where life feels manageable again. I won't push people to relive bad experiences, but I will work to establish a safe space to share and explore your needs at your own pace.

My methodology is to assist in identifying client goals and then select from a variety of interventions specifically tailored to the individual which include: Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Attachment Theory, Theraplay, Mindfulness and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy.
The decision to engage a therapist is deeply personal and may seem challenging. It is a unique relationship, where ideally, you can be in a safe, empathic environment and talk to someone with in depth psychological training and significant life experience. I offer both to my clients, treating individuals, couples, children, adolescents and families. These relationships have led me to focus on the treatment of: anxiety, depression, relational communications, work place stressors, substance use/abuse, attachment disorders, emotional regulation issues, self image, family systems, ADHD, grief and loss, parenting, obsessive/compulsive behaviors, impulse control, mood disorders and relational conflicts.

You are thinking about your situation and cannot seem to make sense of it. You keep repeating the same train of thought, but you continue to be stuck in a rut. You want to change the way you see your situation; you are sure there is something you are missing, but you just can’t put your finger on it. You’ve talked to friends and family about what is going on, and you have been in therapy before, but you still can’t get past what is bothering you.

Pain and grief are universal. How we deal with it and heal sets us apart from each other. Sometimes, we get stuck and can't see how to move. It's like standing in a dark room with a flashlight but no idea where to point it and in what direction to walk. I am here to say you are not alone; together, we can work on bringing the light back to those dark rooms. Raised in Los Angeles, I moved to Orange County and attended Hope International University, receiving my Masters In Marriage and Family Therapy. I began working as a therapist with under-resourced families and working with substance abuse clients

"I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become." ~ Carl Jung. Do you feel overwhelmed, have pain, grief, anxiety, depression, or unseen shadows that prevent you from healing or from choosing better decisions, relationships, and allowing yourself to matter in your own life? My experience and education can help people hungering for more purpose, fulfillment, and nurturing relationships instead of dissonance, exhaustion, and sacrifice, those who know what you were aiming for, but discovered you’re at the top of the wrong ladder. If you feel like you’re different or unseen, then I may be the psychotherapist you’ve sought.

Are you finding it hard to get out of your head? Do you feel consumed with worry? Perhaps you feel stuck in a sad place from a past loss or a present difficulty or feel little hope for the future. These feelings can cause us to isolate and feel misunderstood by others. Many times, people feel beaten down by the world and end up turning their experiences inward, feeding a harsh self-critic who makes us doubt or judge ourselves, taking us away from the power of our inner resources. When we feel disconnected to ourselves, it is harder to build trust to connect to others and the larger world.

Are you less than satisfied with who you've become and the life you're living? Many of us struggle with acceptance and love for our bodies and are unsure how to make peace with ourselves and plot a positive path forward. I believe therapy is a collaboration where I meet you wherever you are and we become partners on the path toward your best self. Because mental and emotional distress happens in relationship, we begin with the most important relationship you will ever have – the one with yourself. The way in which we treat ourselves directly correlates with how we show up in the world and connect with others.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
