Anxious, stuck, depressed, afraid. These words may be a few you use to describe your life, keeping you from living the way you want to live. I’m here to help you make sense of your struggles, build your strengths, and find peace in the midst of it all. My counseling practice is approachable and comfortable for people who have never seen a counselor before and those seeking a different therapy experience. Knowing where and how to begin might feel difficult for you, which is why we'll use the well-researched and evidence driven approach of ACT to guide us every step of the way.

Issues of depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship conflcts and substance abuse are some of the most typical issues I address in my work with clients.
In my office I offer clients a warm and supportive therapeutic environment where issues can be successfully addressed and resolved. But it is only with the client's effort and desire to change that psychotherapy is most successuful. Through the years I have found that a direct approach in therapy is most valuable as it allows us both to target those beliefs and behaviors which may require change.

Straight, gay, kinky, spiritual or skeptic, in therapy you may discover pleasantly surprising things about yourself. You may become more yourself, find new strength. You can transform social minority life experiences into a vision of personal identity. You can come to terms with the realities of anxiety, depression, stress, difficult relationships: Maybe life is exceptionally difficult now. Maybe you need space to re-discover forgotten goals . Sometimes it's good to have assistance. Therapy can help.

I'm passionate about helping people navigate emotional regulation difficulties, religious trauma, dissociation, anxiety, and identity.
Finding a place where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and valued is hard. Maybe you're seeking a safe, understanding place to explore your identity or struggles with someone who "gets it." No matter what brings you here, I'm glad you're here. Together, we will create a space where your whole, authentic self is welcomed, affirmed, and valued. You won't encounter judgment or someone telling you who you "should" be in this space. Instead, I believe that you are the expert on your own life and that your experiences, relationships, and traumas have profoundly shaped you.

Can you remember the last time you didn’t feel stressed? Has stress become your new normal? You feel depressed and have unrelenting anxiety. You feel stuck and wish the world would slow down. And your body is in a knot - stomach aches, muscle tension, stiff neck, tight jaw. You might be struggling from a lifelong illness, like cancer, going through a life changing event like divorce or job loss, or grieving the loss of a loved one, or don't know why you feel the way you do. You just know you don't like it - you want to feel better. Something has got to change.

Through the years I have helped many people cope better with anxiety and depression.
I form a therapeutic relationship with my clients to help them deal with the issues they present. I draw on my years of experience and training to create the most effective treatment. Most of my clients experience relief within weeks of beginning therapy. Depending on the depth of the issues presented therapy can last a few months to a few years. Trust is the foundation and insight the main tool to create positive and long lasting change. I work with my clients to find what is best for them and support them in making the changes they want.

I have been working with people in Atlanta as a licensed clinical psychologist for36years. They may be experiencing anxiety or depression or frustration or anger or even hopelessness. These feelings may be related to issues such as their family of origin, their current relationship, their job, their health, their sexuality or other areas of life. While I have on occasion worked with children and adolescents, I work primarily with adults in individual, couples and group psychotherapy. I find it fulfilling to work with people to make positive changes in their lives.

This approach works well for Identity issues, anxiety, depression, mood disorders or recurrent thoughts.
We may sometimes feel that we are not able to embody our identify and beliefs. Feeling you should be something you are not is unbearable: what is core to you can be honored, and what is not can be examined and then embraced, accepted or changed. What we choose to value, and how we pursue those values, dictate what we are to become. Some things cannot be changed, and yet we can choose how we move around them. Being true to yourself can sometimes seem like a difficult choice, and we all must decide when and how to realize our potential, even in the face of adversity.

Are you full of racing thoughts and can't figure out why or how to stop them? Are you looking for a therapist who you can discuss your D&D character with? Maybe you're tired from reviewing every mistake you've ever made and struggle to communicate how you feel to friends and family. I value creating a space where we will explore who the villain of your story is, whether it be feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or something else. While I enjoy working with everyone, as a queer and GNC therapist, I specialize in working with queer/trans teens & adults. I appreciate creating a comfortable & geeky space where you can show up as yourself.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
