I focus on the treatment of adolescents and adults by integrating both psychodynamic and CBT principles. I aid my clients in achieving meaningful and lasting change by helping them better understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It is my firm belief that clients ultimately do the heavy lifting in helping themselves. While I can guide them through with careful listening and appropriate questioning, it is with their dedication and hard work that they find the answers to a more fulfilling and happy life.

I am grateful to be a guide to people coping with different life challenges: depression, anxiety, loss, traumatizing events, relationship problems, etc. Collaborating with a professional who can both understand you ("get you") and help you find solutions to problems can be transformative. Exploring how to build upon strengths and find new ways of coping with life challenges is an opportunity to take charge. Therapy is a great tool for this empowerment. I have an open-minded, non-judgmental style and am committed to helping others explore making changes in their situations within a safe, respectful environment. I can help.

Life brings about a series of transitions, and transitions invariably lead to change. But making changes is not always so easy. Taking charge of your life, even taking action to make changes, can be challenging and even frightening - especially if you are already suffering from depression, anxiety, phobias or addictions, or when any of these symptoms starts affecting your professional life, interpersonal relationships, creative work or your day-to-day existence. I can help you to move forward as we work together in an environment safe from feelings of fear, shame or guilt.

All of us have moments in our lives when we could use a little extra help. Therapy can be that support, whether we’re facing big changes, past traumas, issues in our relationships, ongoing mental health struggles, or burnout from the demands of everyday life. It allows for the time to be heard and seen, to talk things through, to build better coping skills, and reach greater fulfillment. I’ve felt privileged to see and aid in this growth process throughout my time working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and eating disorders.

Often times we do not acknowledge when something is "off" because it is attached to a pattern of behavior. In our work together, we will spend time exploring and listening to the inner self so we can foster safety and challenge current behavioral patterns. This approach is extremely individualized, which essentially means we move at a comfortable pace. My hope is that you are motivated to assess and make decisions that serve your wellness.

In my 30+ years of experience as a psychotherapist, I have found that the key to important and lasting change comes from developing a trusting relationship. This then allows one to feel safe enough to explore, understand, and ultimately move through tough past experiences that have stood in the way of growth, intimacy, success and feeling at peace with yourself and who you are.

I believe the most important element of therapy is the client-therapist relationship, and so her approach is compassionate and collaborative. I seek to provide a safe, supportive environment that fosters empowerment and self-acceptance. Throughout the process, my clients and I explore and gain insight into present and past experiences to better understand personal and interpersonal dynamics and recurring patterns of thinking and behaving. In a person-centered environment, I work with clients to set goals, identify barriers, and develop constructive coping strategies to manage internal and external stressors.

I work with adults, students, professionals, and new parents recovering from trauma, struggling with anxiety and stress, academic and work issues, emotional conflicts, loss, coping with chronic illness and adjusting to major life transitions.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
