I will teach conflict resolution & develop solutions & to be fully present with family.
Facing problems in your home life or relationships? Struggling to feel heard, understood, connected? Has the spark faded as the grind of life crowds out time together? Worried that something is wrong, but can’t quite put your finger on it—leaving you feeling lonely, depressed, anxious, and afraid? Has your trust been violated? Are people telling you it’s time to move on, but you feel conflicted? If you are at the end of your rope, I can help. I can guide you in learning how to connect with one another, rebuild trust, resolve conflicts, and become fully present with family at the end of a hard day’s work.

The mission of Starfish Family Counseling, PLLC, is best described through a story. The Starfish Story tells of a child walking along a beach after a terrible storm which washed up thousands of starfish onto the beach. The child is throwing starfish back into the water, when someone admonishes the child that they cannot save them all, cannot really make a difference. The child responds by picking up another starfish and saying "it makes a difference to this one." Together we will explore your goals, strengths and most importantly that you, your child, your relationships deserve healing. You matter.

I specialize in working with teen to middle-aged women dealing with self-esteem and relationship issues, as well as adults and teens dealing with relationship issues, setting boundaries, and family issues.
Do you feel lost, confused, and totally disgruntled as the world feels like it is passing you by but you’re holding all of the strings together. Getting to this point has taken a lot of you, maybe even feeling like its taken all of you. You have used so much courage, perseverance, and resilience to get to this point. This is the place where it stops. This is where you find what you have been looking for: the support, the encouragement, the ear to listen, the shoulder to cry. This is the space where you feel safe to be able to be the most vulnerable that you have ever been.

I’m a sounding board to help you find the solutions within! This is the case regardless of whether are dealing with depression, anxiety, communication issues, trauma, or grief.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
