I am trained in these evidence-based modalities: EMDR, IFS (Internal Family Systems), Brief solution focused therapy, CBT ( cognitive behavioral therapy), EFT, Matrix Reimprinting, NLP and many others that I use- depending on the particular client.
I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my practice. In your first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. With CBT, we’ll look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and experience. Then, I have many evidence based therapy modalities that I use to move you forward faster. Most of them are the newer modalities such as EMDR, IFS, Ericksonian therapy, EFT, motivational interviewing and NLP. I integrate and combine these therapies to help you move through obstacles that have held you back.

Being a parent is hard work. There are so many unexpected challenges and emotions that arise that can feel overwhelming and isolating. I work with families who are struggling with parenting challenges, child sleep issues, pregnancy and/or birth trauma and postpartum mothers and fathers and couples who are adjusting to life as a family. I believe in a holistic approach where we focus on the past and present and how it connects to our current life as well as our mind, body and spirit.

Trained in family systems, psychodynamic or "insight-oriented" therapies, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, I help the client find "what works" to help him or her feel supported in making the desired changes.
People entering therapy want some kind of change, whether in the quality of their relationships or in their personal or professional satisfaction levels. My style is warm and nurturing but highly interactive and practical. I help my clients gain the self-awareness to understand their goals, identify the roadblocks hindering their progress, and make the changes necessary for a healthier, richer life and deeper, more intimate relationships.

I am extremely passionate about my work, I grew up in a family of psychoanalysts, so my life has been immersed in the workings of the mind.
I have been working in the field of psychology for 25 years. My personal nature combined with superior training allows me to help people manage the complicated array of emotions that naturally occur among all of us. My post-doctoral training strengthened my ability to work effectively with children and their families, in addition to helping couples and parents. I will help you understand yourself, your relationships, so that you will be able to manage your feelings as opposed to experiencing that your feelings hold you hostage. It is then that you will feel more alive and more connected to yourself and your surroundings.

In individual, couples, or family therapy, by working collaboratively, we can work through the obstacles that are preventing you from being who you desire to be.
Being able to have meaningful relationships in your life takes effort and can make a difference in the difficult situations that you may face during a lifetime. Sometimes the ghosts from our past make it hard to trust and communicate with our loved ones. Your past and present environmental stressors and relationships can shape who you are today and create feelings of depression and anxiety. At times, doing anything to cope seems necessary. However, with therapy, you can find those strengths that you already have and bring them to light in order to change your quality of life for the better.

Are you or a loved one thinking about making a change to your drinking or substance use? I can help. Some of my clients have been in and out of rehab many times and were looking for an alternative-someone with deep expertise who can provide a new way of looking at their problem and identify a pathway out of their suffering. Still other clients came to me because they did not feel that they needed something as intensive as rehab and wanted to work on their substance use while still taking care of their career, family, home and other obligations. I would be honored to be of assistance.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
