Along with training in marriage and family therapy, I am a clinical art therapist, and certified in EMDR.
I have always believed that we are the masters of our destiny, and couldn't do the work I do without trusting that everyone is capable of change. One of the most exciting aspects of therapy is embracing that hope for yourself, your child, or family. Throughout my 30 years of experience, I have developed therapeutic approaches to empower clients and help them manage and overcome feelings of depression and anxiety, conflicted relationships, unhealthy behaviors and other stressors. As a family therapist, I work closely with families when treating children and adolescents, and offer guidance on parenting issues.

I combine mindfulness, cognitive therapy, internal family systems and artistic approaches to improve self-expression, increase confidence, revive interests and explore the possibility of true and permanent healing.
Do you ever feel stuck in some way, even shut down or have difficulty getting out of bed? Are there times when you turn to food or diet as a way to manage strong emotions? I specialize in working with women who experience anxiety, depression and eating disorders. I will help you engage in the creative process to explore underlying issues and reveal hidden strengths. Art therapy offers a profound way of transforming and healing images stuck just beneath the surface and this can lead to more satisfying connections, greater confidence, renewed energy, and an ability to thrive in both work and home environments.

If you've decided you're tired of feeling lost, alone, resigned to the same generational patterns of trauma and unhappiness you've watched your parents go through, it's time to get some support. I have extensive experience working with perfectionists and adult children of dysfunctional families who want to begin focusing on building a life aligned with their own values by dismantling old patterns. I'm here to walk with you as we collaboratively develop a clear pathway to where you want to be in your life. I use an eclectic approach, drawing from CBT, ACT, mindfulness, art therapy, parts work, and somatic experiencing to get there.

Making the decision to begin or restart therapy is tough. We get messages from all around us that we should be independent or "strong," so asking for support can feel like somehow, we've failed. Maybe it gives you anxiety just imagining how you would squeeze one more appointment into your already packed schedule. Less than optimal experiences in therapy might have you tired of searching and worried about who you'll be able to trust. Or maybe you're waiting for the 'right time' to begin. Whatever has brought you to this point right now though, has taken a lot of strength.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
