My clinical approach to psychotherapy is an eclectic mix of Humanistic/Existential, Solutions-Focused, Psychodynamic/Relational, Emotionally Focused, Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral theories and many more.
Carl Jung said: “It is what you are that heals, not what you know”. The journey of self-discovery is exactly that – getting to know and deeply appreciating your true and authentic self, even when that essence may be covered by trauma, hardship and suffering. It is this uncovering that many who experience psychotherapy to be transformative and healing refer to as a “re-birth”, a coming home to and an unfolding of who you truly are. Engaging in the process of self-inquiry can be a rewarding and even a life-changing experience, especially in the presence of an empathic and compassionate other.

I am an employee of Process Therapy Institute, who is currently only accepting new clients for couples counseling, (specializing in both Romantic Couples: monogamous partners and ethically non-monogamous partners; as well as Non-Romantic Couples/Duos: peer relationships, co-workers, family members, business partners, and roommates).
Are you finding it difficult to express your needs with someone in your life? Are you concerned that you and your loved one keep misunderstanding each other due to differences in cultural or gendered communication styles? Maybe you're going through a life transition that's adding to your stress levels, and leaving you both feeling in the dark about how to give and receive support? Or perhaps you are happy in your partnership, but are eager to grow together and deepen your bond even further? I can shine a light on those areas of difficulty for you both that remain obscured from view, and illuminate a new way forward.

I am noted as a Collaborator in “ Family Caregiver Distress” published by Hogrefe in 2023.
Writer John O'Donohue defines my view of being a therapist: "This is what therapy is about: helping people retrieve what has been lost to them, wakening and bringing home their fundamental wholesomeness.. Therapists are like poets: they draw on the power of words in the profoundly creative work of bringing people fully alive to themselves, awakening in them the human capacity for divine imagination that ‘dreams our completion’.”

First and foremost, therapy should make you feel cared for. A therapist needs to be insightful and honest with a huge dose of compassion. I always remember that it’s not easy for someone to reach out for help. I have over 17 years experience providing psychotherapy and counseling. I provide therapy for adults with anxiety, depression, self-confidence issues, grief and loss, addiction, intimacy, spiritual growth, and difficult life transitions. In addition to being a psychotherapist, I’m a best-selling author of several books and a published researcher. My approach to therapy is person-centered. I work in collaboration with clients,

Experiencing grief because of loss can make us turn away just when we need the most support. We can also get triggered at certain times, especially around the holidays. Self-discovery is a unique journey that we all take. Our experiences, intersectional identities and environments are constantly shaping who we are. This can be an exciting and challenging time in which we tend to engage in a reflective process as various questions arise. “Will I fit in here?” “Who is there to turn to for guidance?” “What does this experience mean for me?” Individual, couple and family therapy can be an integral part of working through challenges, all of which I fully embrace on the therapeutic journey.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
