I’ve gained flexibility and knowledge working with many different populations and different issues, including anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression, as well as
family
conflict and relationship issues.
Asking for help is hard. However, once you take that first step, it can be life-changing. Anything is possible by learning practical communication skills and building a positive self-view. My approach prioritizes my client’s needs and input to help them help themselves. I hold degrees in psychology and Biology, which provide an awareness and understanding of biological, chemical, and psychological intersections for mental health treatment.

We all want happiness. However, we could lose clarity that has once helped us make healthy decisions when life prompts us with challenging situations: marital problems,
family
discord, difficult parent-child relationships, acculturation issues, individual psychological problems, spiritual crisis, personal existential crisis, or transitional life issues. My calling is to help people find happiness, whether by developing new insights into their troubling predicaments, increasing mutual understanding amongst
family
members through effective communication, empowering human diversity, thereby fostering a satisfactory outcome.

Whether I am working with an individual adult, child or
family
, I always want to understand what are the current supports available to my client which will help them resolve concerns in the most positive and sustainable means possible.
As a clinical psychologist, I have over 30 yrs experience helping clients work through life's difficult challenges. I work with parents and children to address developmental and behavioral difficulties and to find solutions to the unique challenges of adolescence. I often work with young adults to help them manage transitions into independence and adult responsibilities. With adults, I facilitate their work toward relief from symptoms generated by psychological conditions or from traumatic events in their past.

I am a First Generation Vietnamese-American. I grew up in a household with traditional Vietnamese parents who taught me the importance of rituals,
family
, & strong values. I struggled with cultural & generational differences and I learned ways to embrace my two worlds & improve on my relationship with my
family
members, while still staying true to myself. I encourage you to utilize the meditation corner before/after our sessions. The relationship between your mind, body & soul is key to your healing and is crucial to gain freedom form suffering (whatever that may be)

I have personally suffered with mental health challenges through different stages in my life. I know what it’s like to talk to friends/
family
but not gain any movement towards a happier life. It wasn’t until I connected with a therapist and admitted to myself that I was sick and tired of feeling symptoms of anxiety, depression, and setting healthy boundaries that I was able to make progress toward a happier life.

I also specialized in treating anxiety due to multicultural issues (loss of identity, career issues, & dysfunctional
family
dynamics).
We all go through emotional storms where we feel emotionally and physically stuck; we worry too much and lose control of ourselves. Do you find yourself thrown off balance by your childhood trauma? Childhood traumatic experiences such as abandonment, abuse, and neglect lead to social anxiety. My approach is solution-focused and tailored to your needs and goals. I am committed to providing a profound sense of safety and offering compassionate and actionable guidance to all my clients.

My work with children, individuals, and families in community based settings, residential settings, and schools has provided me the privilege of walking alongside others as they navigate trauma,
family
issues, grief, identity, religious issues, and other challenges.
Seeking therapy can be the first step on a healing journey and I hope to walk alongside you as you pursue personal growth. I believe that therapy can be a great way to access some of the tools that are already within us but that we may need help employing. I understand the importance of intersectionality as a queer Black woman and therapist and can understand how necessary it is to acknowledge the impact of intersecting identities when working with clients. I use an integrative approach to help clients feel empowered to re-frame their narrative and identify and process complex emotions.

People do not exist in a vacuum. The person you are today is a collage of various influences and experiences. These influences range from relationships with
family
and friends, community, religion, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic backgrounds, education, and the culture in which you were raised. What brought you in today does not solely define you and it may not be the root of your pain. Through therapy, we have the potential to move beneath the surface and go deeper into the roots of your struggles to help you develop a greater understanding of what troubles you.

I am a licensed psychologist who has over 18 years experience working with adolescents and adults. Therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client. I strive to create a supportive environment in which clients can feel safe to explore their feelings and address barriers that are interfering with their quality of life. I draw from a variety of treatment approaches that match your own personal needs and goals. I believe our thoughts influence our feelings and ultimately our behavior so I also work from a cognitive behavioral approach.

I look at the whole child, to understand developmentally, socially, educationally, socially and within the
family
system to better understand the etiology of your child's struggles to provide appropriate therapy.
With over 20 years of almost exclusively working with SF Bay Area teens and their families (and a mother of two teenagers),-I have a solid understanding of the issues adolescents face, the struggles they encounter, and the mental health problems that are so very prevalent for them today. Depression and anxiety are at all all time high for teens and understanding the why isn't always so clear. My clients are facing a myriad of concerns - school refusal, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, substance use, social struggles, disordered eating, behavioral issues, just to name a few. One in thing is common is that they are all hurting,

You don’t understand why your
family
causes you so many sleepless nights. You need someone to talk to but feel shame bringing up
family
issues or you don’t know where to start. You try to please everyone but you end up being the unhappy one. You cut off toxic
family
relationships but this leaves you feeling guilt, loneliness, and resentment. To prove yourself, you work hard and sometimes overcompensate. Past unresolved issues consume your energy, make you question yourself, and become hesitant to try a new relationship. You don’t want to be your parents but you don’t know how not to. You doubt if you can live a different life.

I help clients on various types of anxiety, depression,
family
dynamics, relationship concerns, identity development, immigration-related concerns, career development and more.
Life can encompass many experiences, some that are anticipated and some that come out of nowhere. I hope you know that you have worked hard to be where you are today, but at times may feel like you don't know how to manage things or how you used to manage things may no longer work. Therapy can be an enriching experience where both the therapist and client work collaboratively to help the client understand who they are, what impacted them to be who they are today, and who they want to be in the future. I therefore look forward to the opportunity to help you in your journey to become a healthier you.

Seeking support for your
family
or yourself takes a lot of bravery.
Carl Jung said "The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you really are" and this is something I am passionate about: helping my clients uncover who they truly are and live the lives that they deserve. I primarily work with children, teens and young adults and enjoy creating unique interventions based on upon their interests and goals. Using talk, art and play I help clients explore their experiences with anxiety, depression, school challenges, and trauma. Having previously worked in school settings I have witnessed first hand how important mental health counseling is for children, teens and young adults.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
