In my work as a classroom teacher, high school soccer coach, guidance counselor, marriage and family therapist, husband and parent, I've gained valuable experiences about relationships of all sorts, and I rely on the learning from these roles to support my clients in the changes they are hoping to make in their lives.
I want to work closely with my clients to develop a collaborative and respectful relationship. Clients who are facing difficulties in their lives, and who feel that they need to make changes in their relationships with others and with themselves, will find in their work with me a compassionate, supportive, non-judgmental and empathic listener.

My clinical approach to psychotherapy is an eclectic mix of Humanistic/Existential, Solutions-Focused, Psychodynamic/Relational, Emotionally Focused, Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral theories and many more.
Carl Jung said: “It is what you are that heals, not what you know”. The journey of self-discovery is exactly that – getting to know and deeply appreciating your true and authentic self, even when that essence may be covered by trauma, hardship and suffering. It is this uncovering that many who experience psychotherapy to be transformative and healing refer to as a “re-birth”, a coming home to and an unfolding of who you truly are. Engaging in the process of self-inquiry can be a rewarding and even a life-changing experience, especially in the presence of an empathic and compassionate other.

I believe that every individual is unique, and I draw from a range of modalities, including Brainspotting, cognitive-behavioral therapy, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy, to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs.
Are trauma, anxiety and insecurity controlling your life, preventing you from pursuing your dreams and living life to the fullest? Do you relive the past as if it were happening right now? Your head knows better, but it fails to convince your heart otherwise. As horrible as those experiences were in the past, they continue to zap away your joy and confidence today. You might even avoid situations that trigger the feelings. Are there any lost part of you that you'd like to return to? Do others believe in your competence more than you believe in yourself? What would it be like if life was driven by passion and joy, not fear or shame?

Our primary focus is on helping our clients heal their relationships with the external ( family, partners, lovers, friends) and, most importantly, with the internal (that’s right, your relationship with yourself!).
The Center for Relational Therapy was born out of the desire to create a space for the weirdos, outcasts, misfits, and nonconformists that is owned and operated by fellow weirdos, outcasts, misfits, and nonconformists. Grounded in a deep commitment to creating an inclusive and affirming practice, we offer therapeutic services to folks who fall outside of the margins.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
