As a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist, I help people relinquish the hold their trauma memories have on them.
Hi I am Tanya Thompson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have eleven years experience counseling people with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and trauma. Over the years, I have seen clients make long-lasting and positive life changes. These changes occur when people delve into the causes of their depression and anxiety. Using a cognitive-behavioral approach we will work together to change the negative thought patterns that accompany depression and anxiety.

I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, & EMDR intensives to help you heal while discovering & embracing your authentic self.
It feels like you're constantly juggling a million things at once with work, family, friendships. It’s like you're on a never-ending treadmill of responsibilities. And then there's ADHD— where you feel like your brain is running a million miles a minute, jumping from one thought to the next before you even have a chance to catch your breath. On top of it all there’s baggage from your past—stuff you might not even realize is trauma, but it's there in the background making life harder and harder. You need someone who “gets it” & isn’t going to judge you for how you’re feeling or acting. Let me be that person for you.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) and Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET).
Emotional and psychological health are the keys to a happy and successful life! In today's fast-paced and ever changing world, we may find ourselves less likely and less able to control or predict events and circumstances in our lives. But with a healthy mind and attitude, we can be more resilient, and can respond in healthier, more appropriate ways (with a lot less stress!)

I received EMDR Certification, which I often utilize in sessions.
Reaching out for help can be scary but it's also very courageous. Congratulations on taking the first step. It would be my honor to work with you. In individual, couple, or family sessions, I work with my clients to create inner and outer peace using evidence-based modalities. I believe that the healing journey is about creating awareness of our already existing inner resources and adding more to our resource toolbox so we can live our best life. I often work with clients facing life transitions, conflict, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Together we discuss how to increase positivity and find confidence in one’s own abilities.

I'm a millennial, holistic therapist who uses EMDR, parts work, somatic therapy, Reiki, and mindfulness to support your mind, body, and spirit to recover from trauma.
Would you win a gold medal for keeping the peace? Do you constantly sacrifice your needs to help others, but don't get the same energy back? Have you felt your chest tighten or butterflies in your stomach when asking for help, even if you needed it? Despite what you've achieved, a part of you doesn't believe she is good enough. You've tried using positive affirmations, but they didn't sound or feel true. Maybe you've tried therapy before and felt like you were just venting. You feel exhausted, burnt out, and stuck. All you want is to trust yourself, feel balanced, and release what no longer serves you.

I am a bilingual (E/S) Licensed Professional Counselor with graduate degrees in counseling and psychology and have received postgraduate training in several psychotherapeutic approaches, including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, trauma-informed psychotherapy, EMDR, family therapy, mindfulness, and harm reduction.
Psychotherapy allows you to establish a healing relationship in which you can become aware of your strengths and challenges in a safe space to recognize the changes you want to make in your life and appreciate the qualities that are worth holding onto. Quite simply, it is a process of taking ownership of your own life. To help you do so, I provide a respectful, collaborative, and kind listening space. For me, it is most important that you feel that you are the expert in your life. I have found that this type of experience helps my clients enjoy a better quality of life and experience relief from distress.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
