I am an EFT-trained couples therapist (attachment-based emotionally focused therapy), EMDR-Certified, and completed an intensive internship in Structural Family Therapy.
I can, I'm capable, I have the capacity. My goal is to help you recognize these truths and use your strengths to improve your ability to cope with the difficulties you are going through. I view therapy as a collaborative process. Through our relationship, I will learn about your strengths and challenges and help bring you an awareness of both. We will also work on reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression or other roadblocks that are hurting your relationships or preventing you from achieving the things you aspire to. I'm interested in helping you challenge your negative assumptions and/or limitations about yourself.

I work with adults and couples using modalities like EMDR, Gottman, and The Tools, popularized in the Jonah Hill documentary "Stutz", to help you move toward a happier, healthier, more authentic life.
Do you have a sense that you want more out of life but just can't seem to get there? Been there. My practice is dedicated to helping men, women, and couples work through relational, emotional and personal blocks so that they can lead a more meaningful life. I've played many roles in my life: actor, playwright, bio and adoptive father, branding consultant, son, journalist, brother, advocate, and therapist/coach to name a few. I understand and love working with searchers of all stripes in a style that can be warm, fun, and frank.

Therefore, I integrate mindfulness, EMDR and parts work (IFS) with my clients so that they feel more connected to themselves and others.
As a psychologist I work collaboratively with my clients to address their concerns (both in-person and via teleheath). I have extensive experience working from an interpersonal perspective with adolescents and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family issues, trauma, loss and adjustment to life changes (e.g. illness, divorce). I believe it is important to explore how a client's family background, culture and social environment play a role in the challenges my clients are experiencing. I view people as resilient and help clients to use their strengths and resources to make positive changes in their lives.

I specialize in treating people who have a history of sexual and/or physical abuse, neglect, and sexual assault. In addition, I help people struggling with depression, low self esteem, anxiety, anger, relationship and family problems.

Trained in EMDR, my approach utilizes psychodynamic insights applied to the EMDR methodology for clients with PTSD and C-PTSD, and also as a successful approach for clients who have generalized anxiety or depression who may not have an obvious trauma that they are aware of.
Life events often create mental and emotional blocks that keep you feeling stuck. Together, we will identify issues, unprocessed memories and experiences, dysfunctional patterns of behavior, maladaptive coping mechanisms, and other barriers that are preventing you from being where you want to be. We will start with where you are right now and work towards an overall improved sense of emotional well-being.

As a Clinical Psychologist who has traveled extensively and been in practice for over 25 years, I blend Western, Eastern, and Hawaiian approaches to self experience, using principles and/or techniques of Somatic Experiencing (SEP Certificate), EMDR (EMDRIA-Certified Practitioner), Psychodynamic Therapy, Imagery, Ego State Therapy, and LifeForceYoga (Level 1).
I believe we all have an innate orientation toward health, growth, and the expression of our full potential. We may experience, however, blocks in the form of thinking, feeling, and/or bodily symptoms that cause significant distress, interfering with our ability to function optimally and to access our resources and our more complete selves. This may manifest itself in the form of overwhelming feelings such as depression, anxiety, and/or rage; disordered eating and body image; flashbacks and/or other symptoms of unprocessed traumatic experiences; or other signs that we have lost touch with the fullness of who we are.

In addition to psychodynamic therapy techniques I am trained in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing.
People engage in therapy because they are seeking relief from uncomfortable feelings that may have arisen from being overwhelmed with what life has handed them. Many are grappling with relationship challenges, feelings of being stuck, self-defeating behaviors, anxieties, phobias and issues of self-esteem. Others are experiencing physical symptoms which have been diagnosed as being rooted in psychological turmoil, also known as psychophysiologic disorders, or TMS.

Blending midnfulness and Psychotherapy from a Buddhist background - I use Somatic Experiencing that blends Polyvagal education/coaching, Safe & Sound Protocol and EMDR techniques.
I’m a clinical counselor and somatic experiencing practitioner, specializing in Polyvagal coaching. I focus on recent advancements in mind-body connection that allow us to change our sensory reaction to stress in order to maximize the way we perform in our various fields, with a soft specialty in athletic performance. My focus on somatic experiencing through a polyvagal lens suggests a holistic understanding of how trauma manifests in the body and how it can be healed.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
