Additionally, I am currently undergoing certification in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing ( EMDR), a proven treatment for trauma disorders.
My ideal client would be someone who is ready and willing to participate in treatment. I am comfortable with an array of different diagnoses and struggles. Their needs would include working towards tangible goals that we are able to breakdown in the treatment setting. They may want to work on self-esteem, depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms etc. They would want to minimize their symptoms and improve everyday functioning. The goal would ultimately be to no longer need treatment as they have reached their goals.

For more than 10 years I have been refining my approach to therapy and I draw upon my training in EMDR, somatic therapy, CBT, and mindfulness practices to help you break free of old patterns, clarify your values and goals, and travel lighter in the direction of your best life.
Life challenges us in many ways, and sometimes we find ourselves struggling. We may lack energy, motivation, or direction, and find ourselves not enjoying life very much at all. Stressful events, over-thinking, and an unbalanced lifestyle can knock us out of our “window of tolerance” and decrease our resilience. If we don't take the time to slow down and attend to our bodies as well as our thoughts and emotions, life can become a rush of activity without meaning and can lead to anxiety, depression, and disconnection. Therapy is a powerful way to take that time for yourself.

I work with individuals and couples using EMDR along with emotion-focused and somatic techniques to help them move through painful, feared, or traumatic experiences and move into more calm, connected ways of being.
Life can be difficult, and we all get stuck at times. I have helped many individuals and couples to face these moments in their lives and open up to the growth and healing that is possible for all of us. I believe that healing happens when we find words where before there were none, when we find hope in places within ourselves we had long ago forsaken, when we allow compassion and connection to touch us when we are feeling most alone and unseen.

My approach is rooted in a relational and person-centered framework while also integrating psychodynamic therapy, parts work, EMDR, and the connection between mind and body.
Evening and weekend availability. The clients I work with have tried thinking themselves out of feeling a certain way and find that it's not working. They may also notice dynamics playing out in their relationships that don't feel healthy. Often, past experiences play a role in their current difficulties. They're wanting a space to explore these concerns and find healing.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
