Kara is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Health Promotions and went on to receive a Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in EMDR Therapy and Play Therapy.

I am licensed in Idaho and Oregon and am doing Face to Face and Telehealth. I am located in Boise, Idaho. The last 15 of 25 years in the field have been focused on Substance Use Disorders, Trauma and Military Issues. I have been given the opportunity to be certified in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Interpersonal Psychology and have a solid back ground in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family and Couples work, Personality Disorders, Depression, Narrative Work and Grief Counseling. I am Certified in several therapies for trauma/anxiety including CPT, CBT an EMDR trained. I'm also certified in Strength At Home for people who have used violence within their relationships. I help clients make better choices in their life through various modality which have clinically been proven to help people stuck in their behaviors and thought process. I am duel certified in Idaho for Social work and Substance Abuse and have been approved for DUI assessments in the state of Idaho. I contract with Court Referral Services for DUI Education and Victims Panel to assist those with Substance Misuse

Accepting New Patients! I help teens, preteens and young adults learn how to cope with life stressors so that they can be happier in their personal and family lives. Most teens and young adults struggle with becoming overwhelmed and not sure how to deal with all the emotions that come up for them. So much is changing so quickly, and it can be difficult to feel like you are keeping up with the constant transitions.

I believe that in therapy, the focus should first be on learning to gain acceptance of ourselves. I feel that our beliefs about ourselves are paramount because they shape the beliefs that we have about other people and in turn, the rest of our environment. After we identify the beliefs about ourselves that need to be adjusted, we can work on how to improve those beliefs, which will improve our interactions with others and the way that we see the world. I look forward to helping others with that process.

I am passionate about my work with my clients. I believe that no matter how challenging the immediate situation may be, there is a manageable path to feeling better. I enjoy working with diverse issues, but I particularly enjoy my work with men, sexual addiction issues, and helping people heal from past trauma. I also work with alcoholism and other substance abuse issues, codependency, and cross-addiction issues. I am trained in EMDR and other trauma treatment methods. I provide a safe and supportive environment for change.

I have extensive experience working with individuals families and couples impacted by trauma, co-dependency, addiction and co-occurring disorders. Having worked in residential drug and alcohol treatment for over 10 years I bring those years of resources and compassionate experience to my work. My focus on family systems and attachment allow me to treat the entire family, offering the best possible outcomes. I am a Certified Trauma Specialist, a Gottman trained couples therapist and I am one of the few therapists working with Internet and Gaming Addiction.

I have been at this for a long time and I feel that people know what's best and what they want for themselves, but they don't know how to get there at times.
