Disconnected, stuck, unmotivated, or deeply pained teens improve with therapy. If your teen is glued to their phone, failing school, has experienced a traumatic event, suicide attempt, is self-harming, abusing drugs, or has parents going through a divorce - we've seen it all. The teen experience is tough! At Antelope Recovery, we understand that not all teens want to go to therapy, but they know that what they're currently doing isn't working, and they want to feel better. We also specialize in helping teens who have tried other types of help, such as 1:1 therapy or medication but have not experienced significant improvement.

Support for parents is offered to help navigate difficult terrain, including divorce, transition from middle school to high school, and transition from high school to college and adulthood.
Adolescence and early adulthood holds a special place in my heart, because it is such ripe ground for discovery, yet many young people get stuck along the journey. I have worked with young people for over 10 years, who have struggled with social-anxiety and shyness, addiction, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, grief and loss issues, trauma, school issues, and complex family issues. While all of these can be horrific for the individual and families involved, the underlying resiliency present in each of these young people and families is the foundation that we build from in the healing process.

With more than 20 years of clinical experience working with adults, adolescents, and families in a number of different clinical settings, some of the issues I have helped many individuals and families resolve are issues related to: grief, loss, self-esteem, shame, anxiety, trauma, divorce, step/blended families, adoption, depression, behavior problems.
You've already tried all you can think of, but asking for help is hard! It takes courage to take that step toward change. You don't have to 'go it' alone. How do you find the 'right fit'? If you are wanting to feel comfortable in your own skin, wanting home be 'a safe place to land', wish for better connections, communication, and ease, then call to schedule. Together we can we can create the change you crave. Whether through individual counseling, family therapy, or in one of my groups: feel better, stop hurting, live happier, get relief, experience more ease, connection with yourself and others, and live with authenticity.

Sometimes it helps to express your thoughts and feelings in order to look at them from another perspective and decide if the current direction is working for you. The desire to be connected to others is innate, and yet we sometimes find ourselves alone, hopeless, sad, scared, and angry. I believe that being connected to ourselves and others is part of the human experience, and recovery from symptoms that interrupt our ability to live our lives to the fullest is possible. I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals who struggle with issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction. I believe change and insight are possible, and freedom from pain and suffering is attainable.

I assume serious intent to address whatever brought the patient to my office in the first place. It is my hope to form the most positive therapeutic alliance possible. The first step is to acknowledge the courage it took to make the call. I have been practicing as a licensed Clinical Psychologist for thirty years. I have also served as a faculty member at the University of Colorado Boulder for over twenty years. I mostly see chronic depressed and anxious patients I .have worked across the spectrum from imminently suicidial to the broader existential issues concerning a more meaningful life.

So here's the deal. How often do you say things like, "suck it up" and "rub some dirt on it" when things get tough? What are you hoping to gain from avoiding the truth that brought you to say those things? Are you bottling your feelings? That is the real issue, how you deal with life's roadblocks, speed bumps, and HOLY..., and not whether or not they exist. Often there is more than just you involved, you have children and they look to you as an example. emotions are human, YOU are human, THEY are human. But HOW in the HELL do you deal? Grab life by the horns and let's make a game plan! Life isn't easy...call me...you are not alone!

I help individuals and couples find independence, clarity, joy & meaning. Many of my clients come to me wrestling with attachment wounds, boundaries, heartbreak, troubling communication & behavior patterns and issues of self-confidence. I work collaboratively with my clients to provide an accepting space to explore life experiences, habitual reactions, childhood pain and expectations of relationships. This process can often be uncomfortable, which makes trust and safety my priority. I work from the lenses of Narrative, Attachment-based, Acceptance & Commitment and Emotionally Focused therapies.

Starting an inner journey on a path to self-healing and understanding can seem like a daunting task. It can be confusing, often goes against logic, and opens us up to the very things that caused us to retreat from a full life in the first place. I understand the trepidation that comes from starting on such a journey and the various obstacles that arise during this exploration. This journey does not have to be taken alone.

My biggest hope is to help you create a deeper awareness of yourself in order to nurture the relationship within, and with those around you. I view therapy as a collaborative process and relationship. I believe that you are the expert of your own life. I welcome feedback! If you’re ever wondering where we’re going, or what I’m doing - please ask. The therapeutic process should not be a secret, and I’m happy to share information with you along the way.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
