I work with individuals, couples, and families, and have treated clients for anger management, anxiety, stress management, depression, trauma, and relationship and communication issues.
I can, I'm capable, I have the capacity. My goal is to help you recognize these truths and use your strengths to improve your ability to cope with the difficulties you are going through. I view therapy as a collaborative process. Through our relationship, I will learn about your strengths and challenges and help bring you an awareness of both. We will also work on reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression or other roadblocks that are hurting your relationships or preventing you from achieving the things you aspire to. I'm interested in helping you challenge your negative assumptions and/or limitations about yourself.

I specialize in working with teenagers, college students and adults, who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and trauma.
I am a licensed clinical psychotherapist who earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from New York University. After completing my Master’s, I went on to attend a four year post-graduate program at The National Institute of the Psychotherapies, where I was certified in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I believe that with the right psychotherapy, one can face any life challenge head on and develop the insight and the skills to grow from them. I have an empathic approach that allows the space for my patients to look within and do the necessary work to improve their lives.

I have many years of experience as a psychotherapist, and have worked with individuals of diverse backgrounds dealing with a wide range of clinical issues including: anxiety, depression, adjustments of various kinds, relationship difficulties and life transitions.
There may be many reasons you are seeking therapy at this time. You may be coping with a specific stressor or transition, dealing with old unresolved pain, or just feel like you're not living or relating as fully as you would like. You may find yourself frustrated by the role you repeatedly play in your relationships. Therapy can provide a safe environment in which to explore these issues and address the barriers and resistance to change. I help my clients to look at their experiences in new ways and imagine and create new possibilities for themselves.

I have more than 30 years of experience practicing psychotherapy, including working with adults and adolescents who have experienced difficulties with issues such as relationships, depression and anxiety.
Asking for help is not easy. Perhaps you have tried to resolve your concerns on your own but feel now is the time for something different. I believe it's important to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable to be yourself. Growth can take place when trust and a sense of connection develop over time.

The issues people come to therapy to get help with are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship and family problems, addictions, communication and work concerns, parenting, child and family challenges.
Life can sometimes feel and be very complicated. As a psychotherapist in private practice for 25 years, I work with adults, adolescents, families and couples. The way I approach working with people is to create a compassionate, intelligent, non-judgemental, therapeutic space where a person can feel safe, heard and understood. A person can then be more at ease with talking about their concerns and problems in an authentic and meaningful way. I welcome people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and family structures.

Your mental health matters. Therapy requires vulnerability and the courage to do something different especially when you're hurting. If you have become overwhelmed by difficulties that make it hard for you to function, you have come to the right place. If you are an empath like me, you know that the formula for living your best life is to heal your emotions. Family and friends cannot always help you get through the challenges of life; a good therapist can. The power of healing is a remarkable feeling.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
