About

How do you share your deepest secrets with someone you don't know? Trust requires vulnerability and the courage to do something different especially when you're hurting. If you have become overwhelmed by difficulties that make it hard for you to function, you have come to the right place. If you are an empath like me, you know that the formula for living your best life is to heal your emotions. Family and friends cannot always help you get through the challenges of life; a good therapist can. The power of healing is a remarkable feeling. When transformation weaves itself into the fabric of your world, it provides the greatest rush.
For 30 years, I have maintained a private practice in Montclair Center. Combining a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach, I specialize in treating a broad spectrum of individuals, couples, groups and families of all backgrounds across the life span. Specialty areas include crisis intervention, trauma, anxiety, depression, loss and life transitions.
After completing my doctorate in clinical psychology at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, I completed a fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale Medical School. Following my fellowship, I worked in the Department of Epidemiology at Yale studying variables related to help seeking among individuals and families.

Charlena D. Sears's Groups

Growth Group: Thriving During Coronavirus

Need to talk to a therapist while working from home? During this social distancing period, virtual support provides an excellent platform for us to stay in touch. Staying relationally connected while physically distant makes the imposed isolation feel less lonely. It makes the technology feel less frustrating and the fear feel less paralyzing. Our group will help you establish a new normal and make you accountable in a sustained way. Benefits will be advantageous well beyond Covid-19. We are most likely to impact the world when the heat is on. If you are looking to create meaning in the midst of chaos, contact me.

More about this group

Mental Health First Aid for First Responders

We are offering mental health first aid to first responders and frontline workers at a reduced cost. Mental health first aid is an intervention model used to facilitate psychological closure and reconstruction following exposure to a traumatic event. Goals are to stabilize, normalize, restore adaptive functioning, and identify individuals/groups who may need additional help. The goal is to intervene quickly to stop the symptoms from becoming entrenched. "It's not the stress that kills us, it's our reaction to it." (Hans Seyle)
