Life can feel overwhelming sometimes. Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, a challenging relationship or a loss of a sense of self that affects how you function? Do you feel sad, exhausted or overwhelmed by how you are feeling? I believe that you can overcome your feelings and circumstances: it should not be so hard to live better, there is hope.

Anxiety, depression, adversity and trauma can have a profound impact on our lives and in our relationships. If you are suffering alone, or not sure what to do, please believe there is hope for things to change. If you are considering counseling, it begins with a free phone consultation to get a sense of how comfortable you may be with the therapist before deciding to begin the intake process. When ready, we will begin a collaborative process to gain a deeper understanding of your concerns, the dynamics involved and your vision of change, while learning and practicing new ways of navigating life's challenges.

I am a Christian therapist trained in many techniques, interventions, and approaches (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Humanistic); however, my focus is on working with my clients to meet their need for counseling. I believe counseling is the most effective way to gain insight into how our past is directing our present and future choices. We live in a world embraced intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships that have shaped and influenced our perception of ourselves and insightful counseling helps us ascertain what is important to us. I will work with clients, who prefer to incorporate their Christian beliefs into their counseling session.

I love working with adults, teenagers and families of all kinds. Individuals and families who are navigating the impacts of change, difference in neurotypes, changes in identity, loss, divorce or simply feeling disconnected can get stuck. Seeking support and finding time to dedicate to therapy is a brave first step in determining your course, and I honor you for it. As a queer, cis-woman, I welcome people of all backgrounds in my practice and have experience working with diverse populations including autistic individuals, people with ADD/ADHD, the LGBTQ+ community and immigrants.

Life happens, take that first step towards healing. Whatever the issue, needs or goals, we can work together to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle. Mental health is often overlooked and when left unchecked it may wreak havoc on the physical body. It is so important to look at the whole person. Studies have shown being outside reduces feelings of depression and anxiety. Due to this finding, I also offer eco-therapy. Here are 2 options to choose from: 1. Video (HIPAA compliant platform) sessions 2. Outdoor setting

Life is challenging. We all face times when unwanted or simply unexpected experiences cause us to feel desperate, overwhelmed and alone. A relationship that was a source of support suddenly becomes a source of stress. A loved one becomes ill. A job is lost. A parent dies. A child is born. Our "nest" becomes empty. Memories and fears haunt us. Anxiety and depression interfere with enjoying life. The counseling services I offer can help you to improve your relationships, create healthy family dynamics and make changes that make life better.

Life can be a difficult journey at times, and during those times it can be helpful to have someone who can help by sharing the load. Regardless of what type of struggle or transition you are dealing with, we can work together to help you learn new ways of managing those tough times, which will allow you to develop skills for future reference as you continue to travel through life. Since I was a young child in Southeast Asia I have helped others, and it continues to be a passion of mine to this day. As a nurse and a counselor I have experience working with individuals from all walks of life including children through mature adults.

I once heard that finding a good therapist is like discovering your favorite flavor of ice cream. Counseling is not one size fits all. I focus primarily on the creation of a warm atmosphere to dissolve barriers to a joyful authentic life. In order to see results of therapy, I believe there must be a strong therapeutic relationship. I am a non judgmental advocate for my clients. I believe that having an anchor of strength and support is an aspect of therapy that is life changing. Therapy can be a catalyst to create peace, change, joy, and self awareness. I would love to take this journey with you.

Life brings challenges that can be helped through obtaining caring and confidential support. As a compassionate and open-minded therapist, I strive to create a trusting and collaborative environment where clients can express themselves honestly without fear of judgment or rejection. My approach is to empower clients to have the confidence to make better life decisions for themselves and their families. I support clients as they process trauma, and help guide them towards recognizing and adjusting destructive life patterns that are interfering with their overall well-being. I am a member of the World Transgender Health Organization.

Often I work with teens, college students or adults who are experiencing depression, social anxiety, transition, or grief. My clients are often isolated and lacking strong social connections, either by choice or because they feel rejected. For my clients, I try to center my work around logic, common sense and a supportive, trusting relationship. Many people find relief in just being able to tell someone what they're thinking without judgement.

I am an experienced helping professional, what I call a 'change agent' with a first hand knowledge of a wide variety of issues, problems and situations. I am excellent in communication, warm, relational, non-judgmental and direct. I work to hear the issues you are seeking help with. I do not use "psychobabble." I focus on the "here and now" issues you bring and we will explore what has brought you to this place, what you can do and/or what you can be. When we first meet we will make sure I am the best type of person for your concern.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
