I have been in the field for over 40 years, and previously on the faculty, Yale School of Medicine having worked in a wide array of settings with individuals, couples, families and groups including pre-teens - older adults and in prevention/health promotion. People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons - relationship problems, loss, feeling stressed, weight management - the list is endless and personal. I work to develop a supportive, trusting relationship and help guide people to more clearly understand what is troubling them, to move toward living more satisfying and productive lives.

I help adults and adolescents who have problems with depression, anxiety, relationships and life changes. With over 25 years in private practice, my approach is interpersonal, psychodynamic and systemic. As it is appropriate, I provide individual, couple and family therapy.

I welcome adults 25 and older looking for help with complex life transitions, high-stress situations, and high stress careers. I specialize in issues of mortality, grief, estrangement, loss, culture shock, codependency, career changes, burnout, and compassion fatigue. If we are able, together, to gain a deep understanding of your problems in the full context of your life, our goals will be to awaken or deepen your sense of self and purpose, to increase your sense of attachment and intimacy, to integrate your experience of yourself and others, to grow your ability to invoke your agency, and to increase your emotional resilience.

I am an experienced clinician and faculty member at the Yale Child Study Center, committed to engaging with you on a process of reflection, respect, health and healing. This process is universal, while the intervention will vary dependent on age, issues, and needs of each person. I will conduct a thorough assessment and offer feedback and recommendations. The course of treatment will include co-created goals and I will be transparent about intervention(s) I believe will be most helpful.

I use an eclectic but primarily psychodynamic, approach. I believe that the process of looking inward allows you to identify interpersonal and behavioral patterns that you have come by honestly as the result of your early and often continued life experiences. Hello! I am an experienced licensed clinical psychologist. My orientation is relational psychodynamic, which means my clients and I approach problems through the lens of past and current relationships. My style is minimally structured and highly client-centered: you set the agenda and the pace. I also use cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and family-systems techniques where they fit best. I see individuals and couples age 13 through older adults. My areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, developmental issues, personality/characterological concerns, and relationship issues, among others.

Carla E. Marin, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and faculty member at the Yale Child Study Center Anxiety and Mood Disorders Program. Dr. Marin is expert in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and depression, including obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, and school avoidance. She specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression and exposure response prevention for OCD. Dr. Marin also provides science-based strategies to parents seeking support and guidance.
