I specialize in helping people - just like you - struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, major life transitions, and relationship difficulties.
Feeling overwhelmed is all too common these days. Sometimes, uncomfortable thoughts and feelings even keep you up at night. You spend a lot of time trying to convince yourself that everything is "fine,” but deep down you know it's not true. Hoping all of this would just go away hasn't worked. Instead, you feel sad, isolated, and scared. If you're being honest with yourself, you know things won't improve unless you take action; but it's hard to imagine what would make a difference.

We don’t have to have something “wrong” with us to come to therapy; instead, we can explore ways for you to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Sometimes we just need space to show up as ourselves and have the support to explore some of life’s difficulties. I take time to understand your unique experiences, identities, and life context. I approach our relationship with an open and accepting mindset, understanding that your feeling of comfort and safety in the therapy room is essential to creating a trusting bond and healing atmosphere.

It is common to feel trapped by our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and we often struggle to identify the impact they have on our well-being until it feels too overwhelming to handle. This is particularly true for those suffering from OCD behaviors. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts and behaviors to better understand the impact they have on their well-being. I work collaboratively with clients to establish a plan of care that draws from evidence-based approaches. My role as a counselor is to be a partner in helping clients move through, not around, concerns in their way.

You may be struggling to adjust to a change in your life, coping with a traumatic event, processing grief, experiencing anxiety or depression, or having difficulty connecting in your relationship with yourself, your partner, or other important people.
I begin with the belief that everyone is perfectly imperfect rather than the notion that there is something "wrong" with you which needs to be "fixed". Starting the moment you were born you began to accumulate experiences from your family, community, and society. Some experiences were likely nurturing and beautiful and others were likely quite painful and challenging. Your accumulated experiences have shaped you and helped you develop mechanisms for coping, some of which no longer serve you.

Feeling alone, numb, stressed, anxious or depressed? Life has its challenges. Relationships can be complicated. During hard times, you may pull away from others fearing the personal connection or believe you just need time on your own to figure things out. By looking at your own experiences and learning from what did or didn't work, we can work together for you to still achieve the ending you want to your story.

Clients often come to see me when they feel lost, stuck, or overwhelmed. I strive to help clients identify and explore the foundation of a challenge or issue so that they can effectively (and often quickly) achieve deep and lasting change. My work is rooted in my belief that our bodies and minds are designed to heal, and we can get stuck when those innate processes are interrupted or ignored. I use an integrative approach to help strengthen the client's inherent wisdom and ability to heal, with an emphasis on self-awareness, skill-building, and the mind-body connection.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
