I work with individuals, couples, families and teens.
Too often psychotherapy focuses on causality, pathology and cures. However, rather than being "sick" or 'broken", often we are just lost inside ourselves or relationships. Everyone is a unique person with their own story, experience and perspective. The goal of therapy is to achieve a deeper awareness of where we are, to discover internal meaning for our many experiences, and to experience a life worth living. While working towards that awareness, I also feel it important to teach individuals, couples and families the skills needed to cope with the pain and day to day stressors that bring them into therapy.

My couples therapy work has spanned 20 years. In addition to the attraction and happiness of being a couple, there are always challenges. I use an interactional model to help you understand the sources of difficulties so that you can emerge from therapy with ways of solving conflicts. I have worked with couples who are thinking of moving in or marrying, are married or living together, are considering divorce. are divorcing or are in post divorce situations. Parenting issues are an area of particular interest to me.

Struggling with infidelity, trust issues, internet addiction, & wondering whether to continue with your relationship? My unique approach to couples counseling can help you sort through all of the chaos.
You are a good person. You are authentic, open, honest, and vulnerable. However, there is someone in your life who takes advantage of your good nature and makes your life a living Hell. While you are open and honest, they respond with secrecy, lies, and often blame you for creating your own stress. I am here to help you sort through all of the chaos and create some peace in your life. Call me and we can discuss how I can help you create appropriate boundaries, and/or start the process of finding another human who will treat you in the same caring way that you treat others. I have evening hours (after 530pm) for people who work days.

Maybe you want to connect more with your partner, decrease your anxiety, or implement tools for personal growth.
How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one, but the lightbulb has to want to change.

I work with couples to help them reconnect to each other.
I complement an eclectic therapeutic style with deep intuition and keen insight for a direct, but sensitive approach guiding couples to: 1) Learn techniques for leaning in to deepen connections. 2) Gain a clearer understanding of communication patterns. 3) Rediscover intimacy and rekindle the passion you once felt for each other. 4) Transform difficult conversations into moments of self-awareness and growth. 5) Understand how you show up in conflict and why. 6) And identify recurring relationship dynamics.

I also specialize in couples and family work.
My ideal client is open, honest, and willing. Therapeutic work is not always easy, but as long as you are open to whatever hurdles you may face, I am confident I can help you through them. I want to help you first and foremost understand what it is you are going through. I then want to provide education about how it happens, what it means, and how it can be handled. Many people want to be seen and heard and know that the person sitting across from them guiding them through vulnerable experiences understands what they are going through. I am committed to getting to know you and how I can help.

I tailor treatment based on the needs of my clients, and often welcome individuals, couples, and families (including children) for collaborative work.
Relationships are a dominant presence in our lives; we are meant to be relational. The relationships we remember from the past, experience in the present, and anticipate in the future are perhaps the most influential force in shaping who we are.

I am privileged to be able to work with individuals, couples, and families who come from diverse cultural background.
While talking about your feelings with friends and family may be comforting, that may not completely tackle your emotional needs and complications. Seeing a professional therapist can help to alleviate your emotional distress from difficult situations. My mission is to provide support and space for healing while counseling you and your family in a non-judgmental and safe environment.

This focuses on relationships formed in early childhood that have carved out patterns of relationship dynamics into adulthood.
I allocate my time and practice between two specific and unique issues: one being sexually related problems, the other being OCD. With sexually related issues, they can show up as relationship problems, infidelity, arousal discrepancy, or LGBT matters. Likewise, with OCD, there are many different forms and subtypes: harm, scrupulosity, contamination, sexual, symmetry/order/balance/just right. I am trained and experienced in both fields, utilizing tools and interventions to treat one or the other, and sometimes both.

Have you ever feel trapped with no way out? Imagine using your distress as a way to gain a new perspective. Sometimes the problems we encounter lead us to a better understanding of ourselves and our potential. Therapy opens our eyes to alternative options and helps us view our circumstances from a different vantage point. As a psychologist and marriage and family therapist, I have enjoyed helping clients work through difficult situations for over 30 years. My expertise in mood disorders is especially useful in identifying and managing depression and anxiety. I also specialize in understanding and resolving relationship issues.

With a safe and warm presence, I'll help you understand the source of your struggles, develop new relationship & mindfulness skills, and feel confident about your future.
You and your partner sit silently on the sofa. The TV is on, & you're both looking at your phones. Though in the same room, you might as well be a world apart. You're feeling neglected, unappreciated, & lonely. There's little affection between you these days. You try to focus on all the positives in your life, but your unhappiness is becoming the elephant in the room - harder and harder to ignore. You long to feel desired, appreciated, & a priority in your partner's life. You're afraid to talk to your partner about your true feelings as conversations are often misunderstood or full of conflict. You don't know where to turn.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
