As a Relational/ Experiential therapist, my approach integrates core tenants of Emotionaly Focused Individual/ Couples Therapy and The Gottman Method to bring both deeper emotional insight and practical skills-building into the work.
Our quality of life improves dramatically as we learn to show up more authentically in our personal relationships. We can always cultivate more meaningful connections, whether in an intimate partnership, biological or chosen family, or friendships. I understand how creating change can feel daunting or overwhelming and is best navigated with intentionality and solid support. Actively collaborating with my clients, I ensure that together, we set clear and attainable goals and that each session moves you closer to achieving your vision. Change is Possible!

He takes a similar approach in pre-marital and relationship counseling, with a special focus on communication and problem solving.
Tim (he/him) believes good therapy is not just about connecting to another person, but also about understanding the context of our internal world: our thoughts, emotions, memories, desires, compulsions, and more. His approach is to help people change how they interact with their internal world in an effort to pursue a more fulfilling life, sometimes helping people define what that means to them along the way. In his experience this generally involves a lot of education, trust, and practicing how to use tools and exercises outside of sessions.

I love working with women, young adults, teens, college students, pre-marital couples and couples transitioning in cohabitation.
Hi! I’m a Counselor and EMDR Therapist. I’m a San Diego native and am new to the Chicago area! I am extremely passionate about helping clients find healing and freedom from the past, leading them to deep and meaningful relationships to themselves and others. My role as a therapist is to come along side my clients to empower them to compassionately examine and transform the parts of themselves that feel heavy, stuck, or destructive. In our sessions, you’ll be met with a therapist that values therapy that is both effective and intentional. It’s important to me that we both feel confident and hopeful about our work together.

Through insights and a therapeutic relationship that creates internal shifts, people are more able to effectively channel their emotions for positive effect in the world and live clearer, more contented lives.
I am comfortable working with a wide range of issues, and working with me is best for clients who are interested in not only talking through their problems, but physically moving about them and getting a felt sense of everything that’s going on. As a dance movement therapist, I think the body can be a marvelous source for solutions and insights, when the movement is approached in a way that’s comfortable and safe. Talking is also an important part of the process, as we are whole mind/body systems, and we work best when both are accessible and well connected to each other. Resolving and integrating the past is part of the work.

I am a licensed clinical social worker who feels privileged to be a therapist; I am honored to be part of a client's journey. I believe that the verbal sharing of experiences in a therapeutic relationship allows clients to gain insight, develop awareness and ultimately fosters growth. I work with clients on a variety of issues but specialize in relationships, working with both individuals and couples. I often work through an attachment lens but value & use other therapeutic modalities as well. I feel that the therapeutic relationship is the most valuable driver for change in therapy.

My experience is in working with couples and First-Gen individuals with relationship issues such as communication, conflict resolution, toxic family dynamics, infidelity recovery and sex/intimacy concerns.
Sometimes we may be giving our all to something, hoping for a different result. When it doesn’t happen, these feelings can make us feel stuck and even overwhelmed. My role as a therapist is to give my clients the tools to achieve different ways of feeling and to start living in congruence with their authentic self.

I also work with couples to get out of unhelpful cycles and reconnect with love and compassion.
You are a high achieving BIPOC person who has spent years working hard to prove that you are worthy and good enough. And now you’re tired, stressed, and maybe even experiencing burnout. You’re ready to learn new coping skills, claim your worth, and tap into your inner wisdom so you can make aligned choices, release anxiety and depression, and finally thrive.

I understand life can be stressful. We all struggle at times and need someone to help us through. In my work with clients and families, I firmly believe in building on the strengths and resilience you already possess to help you get through more difficult moments. My attitude and approach to treatment is that while we all have our struggles, every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow as a person. I specialize in working with individuals or adult family members, such as couples, siblings, parents, or entire family units.

As a relationship and individual therapist is affirming of all gender, consensually sexual and romantic presentations and identities; I am sex worker allied and my care is kink/BDSM/ENM informed (and enthusiastic!) and embracing of neurodivergence.
Shame and stigma can permeate every aspect of our lives and make pleasure, love and work challenging, painful and sometimes impossible. Shame and stigma often mask something special and remarkable about a person; talents, identities, ways of living or loving that are unappreciated, misunderstood and even repudiated. Deviance and difference should not be requisites for pain and failure; those qualities can be empowering and liberating. Often, it is a dominant culture that pulls the veil of shame over our eyes and hearts. Our stories and ourselves are worthy of dignity and care, regardless of what we learn from the dominant discourse.

My name is Manya, and I am trained in psychodynamic, psychoanalytic psychotherapy. My approach is to form a relationship with each person I see, taking special care to note any patterns in a person's history or present that may be holding them back or causing unnecessary pain or conflict. I take great care to notice how the past is informing the present and to provide the insight needed to develop and maintain healthy relationships, behaviors and feelings.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
