Life can be hard, and as human beings we all have our struggles in one way or another. I consider it an honor to go on a journey of discovery with the individuals I work with. To assist them in meeting their overall goals and needs. I am a caring, compassionate mental health professional who believes that positive change is possible and within reach for everyone. I see my clients as people, no one is a number. I do not have all the answers or a magic wand to solve all your problems, but I will do my best to help you to get you where you want to go, whatever that looks like for you.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor it is my goal to help others discover the solutions and strategies that they feel will work best to solve problems and lead to a more balanced life. As well as having a passion for supporting moms and families, I am also passionate about LGBTQIA issues and assisting those struggling with substance use. I enjoy using humor, analogies, and relating issues from everyday life to pop culture references that are meaningful for the individual I am working with. I am only able to offer telehealth at this time. Email is the best way to reach me for inquiries.

Life changes and we appear to find a solution to the pain, only to discover what you thought was helping has hijacked your life. When we are authentic, the window to our life has to be opened. Being heard and seen are the keys to opening that place where you matter. When we are overwhelmed our mental health looks for a relief from pain in any way that works. The use of a substance or an unhealthy behavior, takes more than it gives ; the skillset I have will help you discover and explore your path, focusing on regaining balance, motivation, and self-respect. I offer a safe, therapeutic, and compassionate environment.

For some individuals, therapy can be a frightening step to take on the journey of self-improvement. For others, it can be the piece needed to help turn one's life in a more positive direction. If you are looking to begin on this journey, I believe I can be of help.

I use a person-centered approach to assist my clients in identifying their goals and paint an image of what they envision for themselves. I enjoy helping individuals work through infertility and or other women's issues (post-partum, pregnancy). Often, I treat clients struggling with life events, trauma, substance abuse/addiction, depression and anxiety. I have been working with in need families (adolescents and adults) throughout New Haven and Fairfield County for the past decade. I have an eclectic approach, meaning I use a variety of treatment modalities to work on issues presented.

You may feel like you’ve tried everything in your power to cope with the full spectrum of stressors that life has thrown at you - but it just isn’t working. Perhaps managing your emotions has become overwhelming. You might be struggling with feelings of incompetence, worthlessness, and guilt. You may find that your mind is consumed by "what-ifs." Maybe you're going through a major life change, a significant loss, or a spiritual crisis. Do any of these scenarios resonate with you?

I believe people are doing the best they can, AND they can do better. Often during major life transitions, we get thrown off balance and may lack the skills that could help us adjust. Having worked as a teacher, athletics coach, and school psychologist, I like to think of myself as a coach who will help you navigate whatever it is you need support with. I work in partnership with my clients, as I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist is key in helping the client to make any level of change. Just like a teacher or coach who believes in you, I will help you unlock your potential and reach your goals.

I have learned over the years what medications are most likely to help specific symptoms in specific clients at specific times of their lives. I treat you and your symptoms. Whatever it is that affects you at the time you see me, that is what we will work on. I fully believe in the benefits of therapy. There are no "magic pills" and feeling better involves therapy in conjunction with medications. My style involves some cognitive behavioral techniques along with the philosophy of Buddha. I have combined these two entities after many years of analyzing what works for most people.

As an LMFT and a systemic-thinking therapist, I assist my clients with making internal transformations, silencing their inner critic, and discovering their inherent strength to develop insight and foster outward positive change. I assist clients in reframing their mindsets to replace maladaptive thoughts that causes one to remain stuck with new, positive, productive ones. I believe resiliency, bravery, and creativity is within every person; and that internal restructuring leads to external rebirth.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Milford?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
