I provide therapy and coaching for neurologically diverse adults who may at times feel challenged, confused or exhausted by the social world. I enjoy helping clients to interpret the 'invisible' rules of social relationships, and to problem-solve practical challenges they may face at home, work, or school. I use EMDR therapy frequently for improving self-regulation, building on strengths, and for processing trauma or other past experiences that may be interfering with clients' daily life. I also provide consultation to parents and caregivers of individuals who are working on social cognition issues.

Common diagnoses are ADHD and Autism, as well as Depression and Anxiety.
Navigating challenges skillfully in a way that leads to less suffering, more healing and self actualization is a central aim of our psychotherapeutic work together. Sometimes therapy can look like a skill based psychobiological approach to regulate emotions. Other times we are philosophizing deep questions about the nature of the self and reality.

Diapason is a collective of independent clinicians who all specialize in supporting individuals and their loved ones around a variety of neurodiverse experiences, including Autism, ADHD, and Complex PTSD, among others.
Diapason is a word made of Greek roots meaning “through” (dia) “all” (pas), and it is typically used to mean the entire scale of an instrument. It can also describe the process of individual notes arising together into harmonies. At Diapason, we appreciate the importance of each note, and we find that a lot of harm is done to people when they are all expected to sound (or look or act) the same. Therefore, we get to know each person individually so that we can best support them in creating more harmony within themselves, in their relationships, and in their connections to the world around them.

As a neurodivergent person, moving through a world built for neurotypical people can be an overwhelming and disempowering experience.
As a highly sensitive, autistic, gifted woman, I am passionate about supporting neurodivergent women, genderqueer, and LGBTQIA+ folxs by providing a safe haven to unmask and learn to love yourself. Using a neurodiversity-affirming approach, we collaborate so you can heal your suffering and learn to compassionately and courageously navigate your world.

My treatment approach is rooted in transpersonal and mindfulness-based modalities, and neurodivergent-affirming interventions.
I most closely align with clients who need support with cultivating a healthy sense of self, setting boundaries, practicing self-advocacy, and who want to deepen their embodiment while exploring their formative childhood experiences. I’m deeply curious about what makes each person unique, and I love helping my clients create a safe inner-refuge in the face of life’s uncertainty. Together, we can uncover and examine internalized messaging and conditioned beliefs so a new way of being can emerge that aligns with your truth, It’s not too late to illuminate inner wisdom, and make new meaning, free from imposed expectations.

Hey I’m Lor (he/him) and I’m a neurodivergent, queer therapist!
I’m here to give you what you need, be that an empathetic supporter in your corner or developing tangible tools to improve things such as emotional regulation and communication. I don’t utilize a one size fits all approach, and instead want to tailor therapy to the unique circumstances and goals of the person in front of me.

I think of my role as your therapist like the wind that bends the willows at high elevation — helping you grow stronger and more flexible over time. I’m here to support you in building the life you want, always taking care to move at the speed of trust. I’ve worked in wilderness therapy, residential settings, intensive outpatient programs, and private/group practices, and what I’ve learned is that healing happens through genuine connection — between you and me, between you and yourself, and in your community. I focus on collaboration and creating space for honest, sometimes challenging conversations, always with respect and care.

The first time I heard the saying "Nothing About Us Without Us" I fell in love, and I now have regular, ongoing consultation with autistics, including autistic counselors.
If you're autistic, in love with an autistic, raising an autistic, or maybe - like me - just happen to love the flavor they (you!) bring to our lives, you should message me. I've been through hell and back with the people I love and their mental health issues, and I've got the energy and sense of humor to make the journey a few times with you, too.

Autism Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
