I want to help you achieve the kind of life you have always wanted, to help you overcome obstacles that stand between you and your hopes and dreams. Many clients tell me they wish they had come to see me sooner. They regret the wasted months... sometimes years. There is no reason to continue to suffer, to continue repeating the same mistakes, or to keep arguing about the same things over and over. The sooner you call, the sooner you can feel better. Together we can find what's going wrong in your life and get you back on track.

Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy since the age of three, I continue my own battle with chronic pain.
Whether you were born with a genetic condition, or have had an injury in the last year, living with a disability that causes ongoing pain can seem hopeless. If your pain is impacting your relationships with family and friends, you're not alone. If your conditions interfere with your ability to do ever day tasks, you are worthy. If the quality of your life feels at the mercy of others, you can experience stability. If you are looking for someone who has experienced a similar path and has found a life worth living, start your therapy journey now.

This allows for st illness within us.
Are you feeling quarantined by the very walls you build for protection? Has past hurt left you feeling inadequate, unworthy and wondering why you are crying for no reason? Have you recently been diagnosed with a chronic medical condition and are noticing that you're more worried, sad, increasingly negative and critical? You used to be joyful. Getting out of bed used to be easy. You were optimistic. Life wasn't a chore. However, now you dilute and downplay good news with doses of your versions of reality.

Personal change and growth come from an encouraging, supportive, safe, compassionate, and empathetic environment where an individual can discover oneself and grow. Are you finding those coping mechanisms which once worked for you no longer are? Do you struggle to find a connection to yourself or others? Are you finding yourself still struggling with things that happened long ago and you don't understand why? Having the courage to work on one’s relationship to self and others can be powerful, deeply healing, and perhaps one of the most loving actions one can do.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
