I also offer support from a faith-based Christian perspective, if this is something you'd like to add to your care.
If you are struggling with depression, trauma, anxiety, or substance abuse you have come to the right place. Working through these issues on your own can feel daunting and overwhelming. It's ok, I can help you create a roadmap for your healing. I know you are probably tired of trying to do the hard work on your own. That is why therapy is essential and for many, it's a fast track to healing and restoration. As a seasoned professional with over 20 years of helping people heal, I am committed to your process.

My approach is from a Christian perspective, but feel strongly about meeting my clients in the midst of their issues, not having an agenda myself, and therefore see clients of all beliefs.
With years of experience leading men's retreats and facilitating father-son bonding adventures like LegacyRiverTrips.com, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of connection, introspection, and guidance. For two decades I have been working closely with adolescents in diverse settings – from counseling troubled youth in wilderness camps to guiding them as a youth pastor. My expertise in marriages focuses on addressing the unique challenges and dynamics that each presents. Together, let's catalyze the change you've been longing for and build a foundation for lasting fulfillment.

Too often it feels like you are so overwhelmed and stressed out you just want to quit.  Or the insecurities and fears start to take over and paralyze you.  Maybe your are a parent who is at a breaking point with your kid’s behaviors you are lost and feel like a failure.  Is the shame and pain from the hurts you have experienced in you life making it too painful to get out of bed or feel any sense of happiness? Maybe it hurts to look in the mirror and not hate the image looking back at you. Maybe you look like you have it all together but inside you feel like you are a fraud or are at your breaking point.

I am dedicated to helping those who struggle with mental illness, have experienced great hardship, or simply need someone to talk to. I often work with clients that struggle with depression and anxiety. The symptoms that one experiences associated with these issues can be debilitating, exhausting, and dangerous if left unaddressed. People that present with these problems often desire for a better life, but feel trapped by their circumstances and condition. The symptoms often make it feel impossible to take steps to improve and overcome the hardship one is experiencing.

Everyone has a story to tell. Living under the weight of unresolved painful childhood experiences, trauma, loss, relationship problems, transition, and stressful life events can be overwhelming, debilitating, and hard to manage. My priority as a counselor is to honor your story and provide you with an opportunity to begin to unpack the pieces of it that need to be acknowledged and given a voice. I believe that the process of counseling is a collaborative one, where together we can explore issues of concern to you, define and set your goals for therapy, and find solutions that lead to positive change.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
