I use a variety of modalities depending on the needs of clients, including: cognitive-behavioral, solution focused and narrative therapies.
“Let me support you to build a greater awareness of your wisdom, and strength” As a licensed psychotherapist I can provide that support, awareness, problem-solving skills, and greater coping strategies for issues as depression, anxiety, parenting, domestic violence, and relationship difficulties. I have clinical experience working with children (play therapy), individuals, families, couples and groups. We all have an 'inner critic'. A pattern of blaming ourselves for events that were out of our control. This negative inner talk is more powerful when we fall into anxiety or depression.

In the 20+ years I've been a therapist, I've learned that no two situations are the same. Therefore, I don't profess to have all the answers, but I'm very good at finding answers. I value getting to know people and finding out what has worked and what isn't working and then finding answers together.

I specialize in treating individuals who suffer from chronic, persistent depression or difficulty regulating emotions, and find themselves using substance abuse or other unhealthy behaviors to manage their symptoms. I join with my clients to uncover what is maintaining those unhealthy patterns and learn new skills to cope. I also work with clients to identify how developmental trauma from childhood influences their coping style, and help them develop self-compassion and acceptance as a part of healing.

I have always had a curiosity for human development and how our experiences shape us into who we are today. My empathetic drive to understand and help people brought me to psychotherapy at a young age. I received my Master's in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy From Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology. I currently work predominantly with young adults, families, teens and children wanting to figure out why they feel "stuck” or how to help themselves overcome anxiety, depression, grief, familial issues, and other interpersonal challenges. I offer CBT with a solution-oriented push.

We only know what we know, no shame in not knowing what we don’t. Consider it a privilege to accompany you on your journey to a more fulfilling life. Therapy shouldn't have to be complicated or intimidating. I work with a compassionate, supportive, and individualized approach reducing your distress and symptoms and build your strength and resilience. I'm a lmft with over 35 years experience. My style is interactive, direct, and supportive. I focus on the here-and-now but recognize that one's past impacts choices, feelings, and behaviors in the present. I am a licensed psychotherapist and somatic coach. I work with people who are looking to improve parts of theirs lives, build greater self awareness, and process + regulate big feelings and big experiences. As individuals, we are so unique. We all come from very distinct backgrounds and life experiences, both of which impact our decisions, choices, desires and fears. These considerations all play a role in the struggles and pain we face. Looking at these areas of our lives and trying to understand their influence can be overwhelming and scary. For this reason I strive to create a safe, warm and non-judgmental environment where, together, we can explore collaboratively. This time together will allow you the space needed to evaluate your experiences and understand how they affect you and your relationships.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
