Loss and grief are ever present in life so the more we know about the grief process, the better.
Many times the journey of counseling is initiated by a life crisis, when one's resources have been exhausted and it is time to gather more tools for life's tool box. It is an act of strength to reach out, not a weakness.
My diverse counseling career has prepared me to work effectively with people from various walks of life. I am not a fixer, I see myself as a facilitator of change. One of my main goals as a therapist is to teach people skills needed to increase feelings of independence and empowerment.

My areas of specialization include integrating new life directions, addressing the impact of traumatic experience (CPTSD), grief and loss, and chronic pain or illness.
When life circumstances are overwhelming or painful, psychotherapy can make all the difference. I offer support to individuals seeking deeper insight into their interior lives and relationship patterns, and in finding meaning in life’s challenges and uncertainties. I work well with people who want to understand themselves better through an interactive process that invites lasting change. I am a good match for people who are complex, creative, analytical, or sensitive, or for anyone who might identify as an outsider.

Those experiencing grief & loss often feel disconnected and struggle with who they are and what they will leave behind. With over 10 years of full time hospice experience both in Spiritual Care and Grief Support, I have supported both adults and children of various faiths, as well as those with no defined faith, to help find comfort with themselves and their place in the world. Grief often involves death, but we also grieve other losses. Even positive change can cause a sense of grief because change can be difficult. I meet people where they are both emotionally and geographically, with a goal of meeting where you can best process.

Life sometimes presents us with challenges that can feel overwhelming and cause deep emotional pain. Working from a strength-based perspective, individuals can explore their resiliency and tap into their own authenticity. Counseling provides people with a safe place to vocalize their struggles, needs, wants and values. It allows for growth and healing to occur while encouraging positive change within the individual and their lives.

My work is rooted in a desire to support you in recognizing and resolving whatever holds you back, whether that's conscious or unconsciously held beliefs; internalized messages received from family, culture, or a sick society; grief, loss, anxiety or depression, or the challenge of major life transitions. I believe we each hold the wisdom and power to build and sustain meaningful careers, relationships, and lives, even amid circumstances and pasts that are beyond our control. There is so much within our control when we are ready to give ourselves to that.

We all come to points in life when we realize something needs to change. Whether you are experiencing conflict, anger, depression, stress, or loss, counseling can help. We can't always control what life throws at us, but in counseling we learn to respond in new ways to reduce suffering, increase happiness and improve our health and relationships. Counseling can reduce stress, heal trauma and loss, increase healthy connections and help life feel more managable. If you are ready to make positive changes, I would love to help you.

My goal is to help people connect with themselves and others in meaningful and satisfying ways. Connection with the self allows acceptance and enjoyment of life without fear, suspicion, self-judgment, etc., which can prevent us from living life to its fullest. Connection with others allows us to "double our joy and divide our grief."
Addressing issues such as depression, self-esteem, or anger can enhance our abilities to know ourselves and be fully present with others. I use an eclectic therapeutic style so that the work can be tailored to fit each client in each session.

I provide confidential and non-judgmental consultations, referrals, and professional psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups; specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community; and address a broad range of client concerns and multiple diagnoses including: anxiety, depression, isolation, stress, grief, and creative/spiritual blocks.
I believe that the therapy process is a practice of paying attention to what is actually happening - it sounds simple, but this is actually a deeply profound and challenging stance to maintain towards life. The work we do in therapy involves bringing elements of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, how we relate to ourselves and to others, and how we move through the world, from the darkness of the unconscious into the light of consciousness where we can take a look at them. We do not have to struggle and toil in order to implement change in our lives.

My primary focus is on trauma, acute and chronic health problems, mood disorders, OCD, grief and loss, PTSD and major life transitions.
I have been working in mental health for nearly 30 years. I developed a holistic psychology practice over 20 years ago to help my clients get the best results. Holistic means treating the whole person; mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of someone's life to find the root cause of symptoms. I am also a clinical nutritionist focusing on helping to educate about detox and balance brain chemistry with vitamins, minerals and amino acids and eating for optimal health. I focus on root cause of symptoms, doing progressive trauma interventions. Trauma is about times in your life in which your nervous system becomes dysregulated.

What’s your story? Mine involves loss at a young age and a mid-life career change. The reality is that no human is immune from heartache, loss, fear, insecurities, and traumas big and small. If you’re alive, you’ve experienced some STUFF, and you don’t have to carry the burden alone. I have almost a decade of experience in counseling, helping people step out of pain and into freedom.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
