Are you trans, queer, or non-monogamous? Do you feel at the edges of gender or relationship? Are you seeking support with gender transition? My practice is centered on supporting trans and queer people in creating lives that are vibrant, balanced, and celebrated. You can accomplish this by creating a clear roadmap to move from uncertainty to clarity in yourself, and in relation to others. People who choose to work with me are often seeking a therapist who has a lived experience with gender, sexuality, non-monogamy, and alternative family structures. When working with me the "non-typical" is honored as a strength.

It's the middle of the night and you can't sleep. You keep trying to understand why you are so stuck in your life and your relationship. Your partner is asleep in the other room because you are fighting again. You've done so much to try to feel connected but it isn't working. It's so different than what you experience when you are in community, surrounded by people who are vibrant and expansive. Like that time you were at Burning Man and you felt so alive only to come home to a life that feels numb, and disconnected. No matter how many plant medicine ceremonies, books, or courses you do, you still find yourself frustrated.

I came to Humboldt County in 2001, after completing my psychology degree in Europe and my master's degree in psychotherapy in Syracuse, New York. I have practiced psychotherapy for the last 30 years, and I am familiar with a wide range of issues, situations and diagnosis. Although, I enjoy specific theoretical and practical approaches and models of therapy like CBT, SFBT for treating anxiety, trauma impact and depression symptoms, I clinically focus on what I believe suits best the individual and the situation. I view life as a journey towards betterment of the person and reach for happiness.

I can offer support to help you understand the challenges you are facing, and overcome barriers that get in the way of living an authentic and fulfilling life. I work with women struggling with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, difficulty adjusting to life transitions, stress, and grief and loss. I also have specialized training in working with pregnant/postpartum women and mothers of young children. With the support, guidance, and safety that the therapeutic alliance can provide, I believe in your body and brain's natural ability to heal itself and reset to a state of calm and openheartedness.

I believe effective solutions are as diverse as the people seeking them. But when you have consistently struggled with procrastination, disorganization, inconsistent focus, and feeling overwhelmed, identifying those solutions can feel like a daunting task. For neurodivergent folks operating in a world tailored to neurotypical brains, that task can feel insurmountable. In my work with clients, I seek to support folks in identifying and developing solutions that align with their values, goals, and personal identities. Feeling burned out and overwhelmed by the demands and pace of the world around you? Let's work together to shift that.

My role is to walk alongside you on this journey of personal growth to help you find those answers. The pandemic was hard on all of us. If you feel like you need some support or help to desal the last couple of years, I'm here. We all need help occasionally. Learning how to approach and overcome these challenges shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. Therapy allows us to look at where we may be blocked and helps us find our own answers to living an authentic life. I discovered that building a supportive relationship through therapy creates a safe place to explore life issues, understand difficult situations, learn new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations that lead to a more authentic life.

Painful feelings and life experiences are difficult to work through alone. Therapy can provide the time and space for support and positive growth. Compassion for those who are struggling emotionally and trust in the innate resiliency of the body/mind are the basic tenants that inform my practice. Interweaving research-supported therapies, I facilitate strategies that help clients discover and apply tools that promote well-being. My priority is to build safe connections with clients in order to help them clarify and attain their mental health goals so they may live a more empowered, meaningful and joyful life.

There are a lot of reasons to seek therapy, and improved relationships can help most all of them. Repetitive patterns from trauma or a diminished connection with a loved one can drain the resiliency and joy from your daily life. It can seem like you're stuck with unmet needs, feeling like you can't get it right, or that you are the only one who cares about the relationship. You ever wonder how people who love each other so much can argue so intensely? I strive to help you move from ineffective dependency to effective dependence.

Life's challenges can sometimes seem overwhelming. You don't have to walk through it alone. Finding the courage to ask for help can be a powerful step on the path to healing. I believe that when people are listened to, understood, and accepted, they can connect to their inner wisdom, build resiliency, and cultivate a sense of well-being. My intention is to create a welcoming, supportive, respectful environment in which you can feel safe to share your truth.

I have been working with people for 40 years and look forward to helping clients create healthy relationships with me, themselves and with those in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals from all racial and cultural backgrounds who are motivated to make changes in their lives; to reduce painful reactions; and increase their understanding of what makes them feel happy, strong and self assured. I encourage clients to do homework assignments in between therapy sessions, in an effort to help clients take ownership of their process, and learn coping skills that will last beyond treatment.

I (she/her/hers) work with transition aged youth (14-24), adults and seniors in my telehealth practice online. I want to see people who need help with making decisions, dealing with the past, and accepting self care into their own lives.

How can I find a therapist in Humboldt County?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
