The decision to begin therapy can be challenging and can follow attempts to manage difficult life circumstances independently. I believe that healing begins when there is a safe, non judgmental space to grow a therapeutic relationship. I spent the early part of my career working extensively with adolescents and families which allowed me the opportunity to help them work through their trauma as they struggled with grief and loss, anxiety, self-injury, depression and PTSD. Additionally, I spent almost 7 years in an outpatient clinic as an Administrator, also providing clinical counseling to children, adults and families.

I am a COVID cautious clinician. Therapy and reaching out for support is hard, especially being a part of the LGBTQ+ community because of the marginalization and oppression experienced when seeking this support. I am actively working to change that narrative and provide a space where you can be 100% authentically yourself without fear or judgment. YOU are the leader in your mental health journey and you deserve to feel that way. Unpacking trauma, learning to communicate, and setting boundaries are things that I enjoy working with people on, though there are many other things.

I have worked with children, adolescents and adults with various emotional and mental health needs. My career began working with at-risk youth suffering from severe emotional disturbances. I later began working with children and families within their homes to secure a healthy balance of support and resources, while enhancing their sense of self. I enjoy working with individuals, families and couples. I am open to networking with any provider (i.e., teachers, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, etc.) that are involved in one's care. I believe in helping individuals identify their strengths and incorporating these strengths into their daily lives.

How are grief and loss defined? If we broaden the boundaries, the definition can include not only death, but also adjustment to divorce, job loss, abuse, addiction, and estrangement . Individuals can be left feeling anchorless and disconnected. Unprocessed grief and trauma has the potential to lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, and vulnerability. I offer a collaborative approach that is attuned to the client’s presenting needs. In this focused work, I facilitate continuing bonds with a loved one or assist in the adjustment to a loss or transition.

Life can feel overwhelming and confusing when we are met with expectations that do not align with authentic self. I believe positive and effective change can happen once we become more confident and empowered within ourselves. I work with individuals to feel confident to make effective change within their life in order meet their personal and therapeutic goals. I primarily work individuals with disrupted attachments related to childhood trauma, and sexual trauma; in addition to depression, anxiety, OCD (specifically, Relationship-OCD, Contamination-OCD, Perfectionism-OCD), and personality disorders.

Birth and motherhood are meant to be addictive. Yet so many of us feel anxious in pregnancy, experience birth trauma and struggle postpartum. In a culture where mothers are not supported, and the system prioritizes "safety" above all, women are often left stuck in survival stress after birth of their child. But please know that healing, love, and joy is available for you. Whether you wish to process and integrate your birth experience, prepare for the transition to the new role, or address your hopes and needs in pregnancy or postpartum, I am here to walk alongside and hold space for you as you navigate the perinatal journey.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
