Whether you are struggling in your relationship, dealing with loneliness from the multiple issues we've dealt with the past year (pandemic, grief, trauma), or simply needing to process some things with someone objectively, I believe the therapeutic relationship can be a platform for deep transformation and continued growth.

Eroticism is adult play: ideally it is expansive, vibrant, joyful, and stress-free. Living in a sex-shaming society damages our ability to have a loving, easy relationship to our erotic, sensual, and sexual identities. That damage can lead to conflict and disconnection with ourselves and our intimate others. Our relational health is a necessary ingredient in our overall life satisfaction. Most of us long for our intimate relationships to be a safe haven from the stress, overwhelm, and chaos of our lives. When that isn’t the case, it can lead us to feel lost, uneasy, and wondering how to find our way back to a feeling of security.

Many of us carry around an old burden or ache that's been there so long that we may wonder if we'll ever be without it. We use any number of different ways to escape or cope — numbing, scrolling, ruminating, perfectionism, distraction, tuning out our feelings. I'm human; I've done all of these things, too. I know how difficult it can be to see the possibilities of feeling better when you are stuck in survival mode and old patterns. But if you're ready to let go of these burdens, and learn to feel everything that you are beyond the distraction, disconnection and pain, then I'm ready to do it with you.

Do you ever wish your friends would put in half of the effort you put in? Are you tired of initiating plans and not being reciprocated? Do you feel like you don’t have a voice or even feel like you don’t know who you are anymore? People-pleasing behaviors may have kept us safe from conflicts and dangers but could have also caused lots of issues such as resentment, low self-esteem, anger, anxiety, depression and so on. What if you can learn to love yourself the way you care for others? What if self-love doesn’t mean you don’t stop loving others, but you start loving yourself the way you deserve to be?

I am passionate about helping people uncover and heal emotional wounds contributing to anxiety, depression, and anger. In addition, through assessments and exploration, I can help you discover the life patterns that have kept you "stuck". Awareness of these patterns is a step toward freedom. One way to discover these patterns is through the use of the Enneagram. I am an Enneagram CP Certified Professional. See information about a group currently forming below.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
