I'm glad you're here. Navigating life, and especially relationships, can be challenging. In our rapidly changing world, filled with uncertainties and unknowns, it's easy to feel disconnected, hopeless, and stuck. It's natural to slip into a survival mindset, simply trying to make it through each day. However, self-understanding is the foundational step towards accessing the deeper aspects of yourself and fostering genuine connections. I'm here to provide a safe space where you are seen, heard, and cared for.

As a first-responder, finding a therapist who gets you and can hold space for what you're dealing with can be challenging. I help my clients achieve post-traumatic growth in a relaxed environment through my straightforward (no BS), compassionate approach. I understand healing can be messy, and growth can be uncomfortable, so I blend empathy and genuine curiosity with some dark humor and the occasional f-bomb to create a brave space for my clients to work through their most challenging experiences. We all have our own unique stories, and I hope it offers comfort to my clients that I have invested in my own trauma healing.

I believe in a collaborative, Strengths-based, Psychodynamic approach that starts with searching for the root of what you're struggling with. Once we understand ourselves and our contexts better, we are more equipped to find resolutions or relief in the here and now. We will work towards your goals in a way that feels productive yet not overwhelming. Throughout our time, I will tailor my approach to best fit you and your goals. I strongly believe that we all have the inner resources it takes to gain control over our thoughts and emotions—we just need to unlock the toolkit and integrate it into our daily lives, and I'm here to help!

Therapy is guided self-exploration. Often, we repeat patterns because the emotional wounds suffered as children are being replayed in our adult life. We have a subconscious fear of experiencing feelings of abandonment and this drives codependent patterns of relating. Repeated neglect of yourself to get validation from an external being is the definition of codependency. You can break this cycle of trauma bonding and devote yourself to YOU.

Asian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.

How can I recognize an effective Asian therapist?

You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?

A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?

The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
