Are you wondering if working together is for you? Perhaps you're curious whether doing art is a must.
Imagine connecting to yourself and others in new ways by getting clear that within you is a resiliency, a capacity to thrive even as part/s of you may be depressed, anxious, struggle with relationships, and/or are self critical. Imagine beginning to trust that your life can be more of what you want it to be. Working together in a supportive and open way, we can integrate talk, art and other forms of creativity to explore your life. As the creation of a new idea, feeling and/or image arises, as you reframe your past, master feelings, recognize resiliencies, and create new thought patterns - growth and healing occurs.

Do you notice patterns of behaviors that you are unsatisfied with? Therapy is a significant step towards working through and facing life's most difficult challenges. I have worked with children and adults in a medical setting that includes outpatient care, oncology, and intensive care units. When practicing art therapy with clients, I am committed to integrating client-centered approaches and mindfulness. I want to create a safe space for my clients to express themselves and attune to their needs as they explore the path to healing.

As a holistic psychotherapist, I integrate psychotherapy with complementary approaches, such as art therapy, meditation, and mind-body healing.
Experiences of trauma and loss can affect one’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and outlook on the future. Coping with a critical illness or disability can be overwhelming. I use a gentle, empathic approach to help people to express their feelings about painful experiences and develop higher self-esteem.

Welcome to my art therapy and psychotherapy practice page. For over 25 years I have successfully worked with adults and young people seeking change. I am equally at ease with traditional talk therapy, art therapy, or an integration of the two and collaborate with my clients to establish the safest approach to realize personal intentions. My engagement style is gentle and encouraging, yet more thought-provoking and compassionately challenging when it is advantageous to the therapy.

I am trained in Jungian analysis and art therapy.
Therapy is a commitment one makes to oneself. It is a unique and creative process dedicated to self reflection and self discovery. Together we can explore a wide range of issues, chronic patterns, and challenging life events. We will listen to symptoms as messengers - expressing something of the greater self that needs to be understood and attended to. The goal is to relieve emotional distress and suffering; to make space for your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and to gain greater understanding about your inner workings, your relationship to yourself and others, and how you want to live into your life.

My approach is psychoanalytically based, combined with other methods including art therapy, mindfulness, somatic, and trauma focused therapies.
I am a psychotherapist with over 18 years of clinical experience. I see individuals from diverse backgrounds, including, but not limited to, Asian Americans who deal with various internal and external conflicts. Facing difficult life transitions may result in depression, anxiety, and feeling stuck. I provide a secure space where individuals can search for self-understanding, gain a capacity to bear loneliness and uncertainty of life, and deepen a sense of relatedness. Through dyadic processes, I help them work through early attachment patterns and intergenerational traumas that may reoccur and complicate current life situations.

With two graduate degrees, Art Therapy and Social Work, my practice is unique in that I can offer both traditional talk therapy and tailored art therapy techniques.
My hope is that all of my clients will begin to approach both themselves and their world with more gentleness. With so many beautiful moments to capture, do you ever stop and notice what it is that you attend to? These are the things that are filling your life. I believe that small moments are actually opportunities to develop more peaceful encounters with ourselves. Fortunately, we can recreate the way we speak to ourselves. I have over fifteen years of experience and have treated children, adolescents and adults with trauma, depression, anxiety and learning differences.

I help people who are suffering from depression, chronic disease and PTSD restore health, manage stress and overcome limiting beliefs so they can feel empowered and vibrant again. When one’s authentic self is blocked, mental health issues can form and grow into depression, addiction, anxiety, phobias etc. Hypnosis, somatics and art therapy are some of the powerful modalities I use to help bring balance and union between the conscious and unconscious mind. Through Hypnosomatics we cultivate wellness in the entire personality, that helps people see their true self, rather than who they present to the world.

Talk therapy can be combined with mindfulness practices, attachment based EMDR, and/or art therapy.
You excel in one or more areas of your life, yet you silently struggle with feelings of being unworthy and unlovable. Sometimes you may even feel like an outsider in your own life. Maybe you buy nice things, or go on amazing trips, but for some reason you still don’t feel happy. You may hide behind your work and push people away because you are afraid to let them know who you really are. This is not what you want to be doing but you can’t help it. This is not your fault. You are doing the best you can with the resources you were given. At The Empowerment Opportunity, we will help you tap into different resources within yourself.

I am trained in Art psychotherapeutic and nature based ecotherapies.
My clients are postcolonial, queer, subaltern, disabled, invisibilised survivors of everyday microagressions or complex trauma. Like my clients I am polycultural, multilingual, queer and attuned to queries on acculturation, multiple social identities, identity shifting, parenting minority or neuroatypical children, intercultural couples, as well as accidental, disabling or climacteric transitions. My clients want to come to terms with their complexities — those invalidated because of primary or secondary socialisation. Exploring symbolic language allows for production of new knowledge of self and self-(re)actualisation. Paris based.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
